NY chicken lover!!!!

My old droid Phone has this app & others in the camera settings...new Samsung one doesnt though

I have the cheap Samsung Centura, edit, photo studio,FX, posterize, does it. But it doesn't look good for all photos. The app might work better. That pic turned out pretty cool.

Do what you have too. If they won't keep the poor dog away it's on them.

YOUR job is to protect YOUR animals. They're counting on you.

I use an old recycle box for my dust bath now. They know when they see me coming with it what it is and they go crazy. As soon as I put it down they are all trying to jump in. They circle the box till it is their turn, I told my kids that as soon as they grow out of their sand box that I'm going to use that. Then I can leave it in the run and put the lid on it when it is raining.

Neighbors dog came down again this afternoon. I was getting ready to check on everyone and get DD off the bus. So I walked it home and then it beat me back. I got really mad when it decided to run up to my little girl. She was scared. Luckily it was the nice one. So I grabbed the leash and loaded it in the car and drove it up to the house. When they came to the door I shoved it in and said  "I think THIS belongs to you, It was terrorizing mu ducks". I don't think that they are getting it. I don't like to ruffle their feathers so much cause I know that they are very well armed, but I may have to bring them home a dead dog if it tried to get one of my birds. Usually they would be free ranging at that time, but I didn't want to have to mess with them tonight cause DD had her Christmas concert this evening. I think that I'm going to get an air horn so that it will scare them home and let the neighbors know that their dog is here. Maybe they will they the idea...If not more drastic measures will need to be taken.

I would have a hard time shooting someone's dog, even if I did know how to use a gun. For a repeat offender, tho I might purchase some buck urine or something super stinky to pour on the dog prior to sending him back to his family, hoping that he rolls in his human's bed w his new found stink. :)

I had neighbors a while back that just did not care that their dog came over several times and killed my chickens. I didn't have a gun, but the dog was going to get a one way trip to a far away pound. The last time it came over, I was even leading it to my car, but my neighbor heard me shouting at it when it was about to grab a bird and came down to grab it. I wish now that I hadn't handed it back over and had said sorry, it's on my property, it's not registered, it has no tags, I'm taking it to the pound. Feel free to get it back from there if you want it. They really didn't care one bit about it. I talked to the more than one time, they never went to Walmart to buy a tie-out for it like they said they would. It even had killed some of my other neighbor's birds, and they do have a gun, and they told the owner to their face that they would shoot it if it showed up again. They did not care. How can you claim to love and care for an animal and yet let it run free knowing there's a good chance it will be shot? And in my neck of the woods, you are more than legal to shoot it if it kills your livestock. Eventually the dog owners moved, by the way. Guess they didn't like the fact that they couldn't let their dog run loose if it didn't behave itself. Of course they left behind an intact tom cat that attacked my cat, so that was nice.

i like this idea .my brother inlaw just found his one dog shot with an arrow on his own property.he beleaves its the amish folks who live next door.both his dogs were shot but the one made it back home ..he owns the property that the dogs were running on and it was posted , so no one should have been on it ..

i no i'd be pretty ****** off if someone shot any of my animals ..but then i wouldnt let my animals roam loose all over gods country ..and i would heed the warning the first time someone did find my animals loose

We don't own a gun, just a BB gun. I don't know if I would be able to shoot it either even if I did. I know that I would have the right to do so if I needed. Where I live there is just our three of us that are close by. We have a fenced in yard for our dogs and I can count on one hand the number of times that our dogs have gotten loose and went for a run since we have lived here, and when they have they run up in the field behind the house and over to my other neighbor. She gave him a treat and let him in the house and called us, or they run around the house and come to the front door. But the thing is that I know when our dogs have gotten loose within a few minutes and go after them. The other neighbor didn't even know that they were down here. I like their dog he is a sweety and I know that he is just coming down to play...BUT...If their dogs doesn't stop coming down here I'm going to have to do something. Not only do I worry about my birds and kids, but every time they come down our big dog goes nuts. He wants to go after them and he constantly want out to keep checking to make sure that they are gone. The slightest noise after they are here sets him off. I love that he is so protective of us being that it is usually just me and the kids. I feel safer with him here. I just hate that they let theirs run. DH and I have talked and the next time the dog(s) come down we are going to go talk with them. DH went to school with one of guys that lives there. My mom keeps telling me that I should call the cops, but I don't want to do that yet. I have thought about calling our town dog warrden to see what he has to say. I'm pretty sure that their dogs aren't registered so maybe that will get their attention. I know from the few times that I have gone up there that there are 6 dogs up there. They have 2 scary dogs tied up outside. Those I have't ever seen loose (thank god) then they have the 2 big ones that come down, and 2 more little ones in the house. The peole just scare me. They are always shooting guns up there and it sounds like they might have some kind of cannon. The last thing I need is for them to do something stupid like shoot at the house, not that I really think that they will do that, but they scare me...Guess that I will need to put my big boy pants on and deal with it.

HI,

Here's the law in NY:

Now I'm not saying social media won't crucify you for shooting a dog that's killing a chickens but the law says you have the right. Get your phone camera/video going as evidence. It doesn't say you are protected from hurting the dog so consider what BB's, Buckshot, stink attack could mean legally.

You might be able to give them the link to the law and show them your gun to make your point?

Sorry ...it's no fun to be in the position with thoughtless neighbors. I wish you a peaceful ending to the mess.

I had a dog problem about five yrs ago. It was the farm a mile down the roads dog. The first day it showed up, we called them, second day same thing, called them and they came and got him again.
They told us not to go near him, he was really mean. He was a very large pitbull mix. I have little kids, chickens in the coop, ducks, and ducklings and guinea hens free ranging.
A few days latter it showed up again, I was feeling partly to blame, we had a female beagle in heat, but now I'm mad. I needed to empty my muzzleloader anyway so I got it out. I don't know if I was really planning on shooting it, but I fired above it, loud bang and smoke cloud. It ran off.
A couple days latter, before daylight, I woke up to my guineas making all sorts of noise, I've heard they make good watchdogs. I didn't even know they could fly, never saw them fly, only branch to branch up a tree. My male guinea was on top of our chimney two stories high making all sorts of ruckus, and there was that darn dog again. My wife said I shouldn't call them it was too early.Ha!
The phone rang probably twenty times, I didn't threaten to kill the dog, but I'm sure I didn't sound happy.
The next time I drove by their farm it was tied up with a log chain and never visited us again.

Seemed fair to me ! their dog woke you up ....you woke them up ...at least they finally corrected the problem ..
Seems to me if it was mean it shouldnt have been running around loose anyway
