Nutty that's a lot of time in a few days...Holy cow! Thanks for your duty to our health system!

It is a lot of time in a few days but I also hold a full time teaching job and am going to school myself to finish my Nurse Practitioner up plus have house, kids, hubby, animals and 3 businesses and am a sucker can't say no which the hospital know this and that is why my schedule is that way LOL but it keeps me out of trouble and my free time is spent shopping spending all that money I make.

I started coating The Dukes and Roosters combs and waddles with egg white to see if it helps the bit of frostbite they have on them. I didnt get any resistance from them and they were really cool about it tonight when I applied it again. Only time will tell if it works. The alternative is vaseline or neosporin but I figure the dried coating of the egg white will do the job just as well. All any of it does is create a barrier between the comb/waddles and moisture. yes the barrier helps too

The One difference with Egg White is it has Protein & Amino Acids & albumin & some Vitamins & minerals too

I saw the pic of the roo with the swollen waddles (or was it a turkey?). I would not lance the tissue unless I could definately feel a pocket of fluid, and that would be after I gave him at least 2 days, maybe 3, to recover. Any time you open a hole, you leave the body open to becoming infected. I dont like to do so unless absolutely necessary. Again, this is how I would have treated the bird if it were mine.

It's been cold here, too, and hasn't gotten above 32* for quite awhile! Two nights around -12*, with the next two night forecasted to be -11* & -13*! Haven't had this cold of temps for a long time, if I remember right before I had chickens. Everyone seems to be handling the weather quite well, despite some minor frostbite on the roosters. I was surprised to find "Michael Jessie" (Blue Andalusian/Easter Egger) with frostbite on his single/pea comb, but it is quite thick and large, about the same size his head. He's been fine the past few winters, as he was born in 2012, but perhaps spending the winter with the ducks is the difference. The ducks will still splash water around even when it's below zero, at least until it freezes!
The two pullets hatched by a broody in October are handling these cold temps remarkably well, but it has slowed down their growth.
I have eggs in the incubator due around March 6-7th, going to candle them on Sat to find out if the roosters have been doing their job or not.

Glad everyone else is doing ok with the cold temps.

Yes I will always make time to shop. This girl is a shopaholic. Ask my husband why when they start building my house this summer it has to be 3 bedrooms and a closet cause this girl is getting a closet that is going to be a whole room by itself with built in shelves for all my shoes, bars on 3 walls for all my clothes' and built in cupboards for all my purses. Plus the master bedroom will have a walk in closet too.

So cold here in upstate NY near lake George... I have Old English bantams that I brought into my
garage from the Coop to warm them up until this weather changes.
I have individual cages for them so I matched up the Roosters with available hens so that I have
them under control for fertile eggs.
Just waiting for this weather to break, so we can go on with hatching our eggs.
It seems the bad weather stretches way down in the south also.
I am really enjoying our bantams compared to other breeds I have had. So attractive, and polite.
These guys are more like pets.. I can't wait to have more little ones.
I also have 3 call Ducks that are very friendly.. One Male and 2 females...They R AWSUMMM!!
Just glad to be apart of this....and enjoying my little friends.

ducks do tend to water up everything ..maybe they got him Too.
Yes the frozen water does stop them ..
I give mine a watered mash ..keeps the mess down some
Try some Egg white on his comb . I apply with a paper towel & let it dry before they go out again .
