I'd be interested in some Del chicks or eggs !!

I won't have any but you know I always get nervous selling hatching eggs. Just got an e-mail saying they had a bad hatch. All Easter Egger eggs. Oh and 24 eggs. I'm not sure what happened to them all. Picked up here.

" I only had 6 that fully developed, But it seems the developed ones are not gonna survive. One hatched 2 days early and I had to put it down because its intestines were not taken in. The last 5 have not made any sign of hatching so i don't think they will. I checked the one's that didn't develop and all of them were fertile. I have a farm innovators incubator. I did a test run with it and 6 out of 8 eggs hatched. Two of them didn't develop so I thought I didn't collect them in time before they got too cold. I would like to try again and see what happens, I might have just been unlucky. If your able to collect 2 dozen for like the weekend of the 14th of March I will come pick them up. I am hoping the weather starts to warm. I would like to get more eggs for hatching from my hens also. Three that I have are white with black spots (RIR X Black EE rooster). Please let me know. thanks"

Now I just had a hatch and while only 50% five were Marans, (which are hard at best) and one wasn't fertile others seemed to have just quit. I've never had a chick hatch that wasn't fully developed. Two I helped out both Dels and one had to be put down. (this has happened before but I'm to stupid to just leave them be)

I'm not familiar with a "Farm innovator incubator". I use a Genesis 1588.

I am sorry for all of your losses. I have neighborhood dogs that run amuck as well.

I am hoping that my fencing this year will be enough to protect my birds. I lost my whole flock last year to an unknown animal. It was my fault because I used that plastic chicken fencing on my run. I did not know any better and it seemed just fine. Wrong!

This year I already built a fixed run that I still have to roof....but it has two layers of fencing...some three and 1/4" hardware fencing cloth around it. My dreams of free ranging can not be accomplished without casualties here.

I have a coop with a fixed enclosed run that will be used for my quail

Farm Innovator is a cheaper one pretty much the same as a Little giant they are both sold at Tractor Supply and do not hold steady temps in my opinion. Actually if you want to sell me some of your eggs when I get the chicks I will hatch them in My brinsea and will let you know what the hatching rate is my Brinseas hatch real well .

Yesterday was a Interesting day..
The Boys - My Hubby & Son decided to clean of the roofs while I was gone..
They got the overhang off..

All was fine until I put the chickens to bed ..Started counting ...heads ...6 chickens were missing !
Went to the other side of the deck ...the chicken path was buried in the snow ..it was almost dark ..
Got a shovel started digging the path out ....shined a flashlight under the deck ..6 chickens were roosting there .
Wouldnt Come Out ! So I ended up crawling under there ...grabbing a chicken under each arm & scoooching out with them .
then threatening them with the broom so they wouldnt come back in and go down the path to the coop.
After 3 times I was all dirt ..boots, socks, pants , coat ...even inside my nose ..

So today I cleaned off the roof some more with the roof rake ..
Before it got dark I checked under the deck ...4 chickens under there ..roosting
teased them with scratch ...2 came out & went to the coop ..2 didnt want to ..
So I got out the roof rake & chased them with it ..under the deck....they eventally came out too & went to the coop .
after last night ...I wasnt going to do that again ..I had to wash everything I had on yesterday it was so dirty !
I Dust Bathed Under the deck Like a Chicken ! LOL

I agree! I love baby ducklings and their cuteness, but the older and bigger they get, the more mess they make.
Before we moved, they spent the night in the "covered yard", but we didn't have time to build another "covered yard" before winter.
So, they're spending the winter with the extra roosters, and I never realized how messy they were until they had to sleep in a coop.
Hopefully it starts to thaw, so I can clean out that coop before the litter reaches the roosts! The litter is already over 1 ft deep, and the coop is only 3 ft tall.
They quickly get their water dirty even during the winter when there's no dirt! Last summer, I put a bigger bowl for them to splash around in, but they still "muddied up" all the chicken's water bowls! But, when I had a kid's pool in the yard, they hardly ever used it, at least compared to the number of chicks and duckling that drowned in it.
They preferred those small rubber dishes that once they were done bathing, would only have 1/2 the water left in them!
But, through it all, I still enjoy the ducks despite the "extra work" they require.
I laugh when I see them "bathing" on dry ground or the snow, flapping their wings & throwing water over themselves with their head.
Sometimes it's only their head that gets wet, but they seem happy that they're "bathing".
I'm just glad the mothers incubate & raise their young, so I don't have to raise ducklings inside a brooder!
I can only imagine what a mess that would be, as I got my first ducks when they were already several months old.

So last week when the weather was nice, I took the baby for a walk and found clear tracks in the snow... I took pictures and learned they were Fisher Cat... but there were rumors of a Bobcat in the area... so yesterday, it snowed lightly and I got pictures of prints on my porch and in my driveway... very large bobcat. My husband saw him go into the garage with the broken door. So, now the chickens are pushed back another month or two. Too many predators on the property... skunk, raccoon, fox, hawk, and now this... seems I will never get my girls and handsome boy.

Hi all-

I have a silkie mix rooster (Plymouth Barred Rock maybe) that is 3-4 months old and needs a home. My Bantam rooster won't leave him alone. He has had a crooked neck since hatch but it hasn't affected his health at all. He is an interesting little guy. Free in Syracuse (Onondaga Hill) if anyone wants him.
