Sometimes you can find some suet cages at real deals or dollar tree for a dollar ...we got 2 small ones ..also Walmart should have them too ..we got a larger one there
Dogs - I would like a Dog but am afraid it will like chicken toys
Dogs have a chase reflex ? and will chase things that run so that makes me very nervous ..
I understand they can be trained ...not sure I could ever truly trust one alone with my chickys
It is best to be careful ..for both the dog & the chickens sakes
I gave mine a big cabbage hung up on a rope, first time I keep hearing people doing it, four days latter they still avoid it and I peeled some leaves down, threw them some pieces which they gobbled down, and they still are scared of it Lol! I'm growing kale and swiss chard to freeze and feed mine this next winter. I feed mine dandelion greens in the summer if they are in their run and not free ranging, they love them and super good for them and us, I eat them also, raw chopped fine in salads.
I didn't realize that was a boxer, you don't see to many white ones. I had a monster of a boxer, reddish fawn with the white mask and black mascara eyes Lol!. he was close to a hundred pounds and no fat, was my best friend for many years, pre wife and kids days. They are so human IMO. He went everywhere with me, even work. I had a guy ask me to breed him to his female, she was white, threw all white pups. Mine would chase animals, but never catch them, he had the worst nose "where did he go"
He is a big goofy Rowdy boy. Very smart but, also Deaf if he see's it running its a game of Chase..... He caught my Gabby (Pekin Duck) last summer and brought her to the porch. Didn't do any damage to her but, I decided after that. The dogs needed serious supervision outside lol. I have two classic fawn sisters Lucy & Desi one here in Tennessee and one at my NY home, two white brothers Pedey & Rowdy one here with me and one in NY. And my brindle boy here in Tennessee half brother to the other boys Oscar aka Duck <~~~ was my daughters nick name for him and it stuck. He answers to both but, when called Oscar he knows he's in trouble lol.
We have a min pin bichon mix, she is smaller than the chickens. She likes to go feed the chickens with me, I don't take my eyes off the rooster, I don't think he would go after her but you never know.
Had a chocolate Lab we use to have catch one of our RIR roosters, scared the crap out of me I thought he was killing it as bad as that roo was screaming. Had it in his mouth, came running up to me all happy, he 'fetched' it, didn't hurt a feather!![]()
She is our 11yr old daughters. She gets mad at me when I call her Gizmo, she does look like Gizmo from Gremlins doesn't she?
Hope that DW will be fine. I know that it has been hard for her. Sending prayers and good thoughts.Well now I noticed foot prints in my yard and I think that Boxer was back. I am NOT happy. I will have to be on my guard.
Though DW looks as though her wound has become infected and I'm concerned. Which means a trip to the doctors.
I noticed Delores and her gang won't come out of the coop as they used to do. I will try to be outside as much as I can to watch for that dog.
Question: At what point can you incubate a pullet egg? Should you wait for them to lay for 6 months etc... Are they fine when they have normal beautiful fertilized eggs?
Thank you all for the feed suggestions. I have over 100 little ones between my hatches & GFF order. I will try an mush it up because they absolutely lose most of the crumbles through the hardware cloth cracks. I already give them our food scaps but there really aren't much of them. There is one foursome of silkies who absolutely go nuts for apples. I just pluck the seeds out for them. I tried cabbage and lettuce and hung it from a string and most of them were scared to death of it...LOL.
I am planning on planting for them this year. Some real nice grasses and squash; maybe about an acre or two.
I cant wait until they can forage the yard. Supervised of course.
