NY chicken lover!!!!

Do you all remember when we used to do photo Friday in here? I think we should bring it back!

Here's Pretty Boy. Anyone have any idea what the heck type of comb he has? Some sort of weird rose comb?

Pharm, these are for you:

And of course my lovely assistant had to help with the picture taking by chewing on my camera strap.

But she did let me get a picture of her pretty eye.

Well now those are some nice pics.

Pretty boy is very nice. Is he a pure bred? His come type looks to be a Rose type not a Pea type. Though the Sicilian has a different type of comb. If he is not pure then he looks to have Sicilian Buttercup in him. Pretty birds but I think I did not like the temperament. Not sure why I didn't get them with my first 25 chicks.

Oh pyxis you made my day! Einstein looks very happy and settled in. I am so happy for him and witchy and you. He looks fabulous.

Another beautiful day and time to let the monsters out.

Thanks everyone! Rancher, Pretty Boy is a mixed breed. His mother was a cemani, and his father was a NN with who knows what in him. I hatched his father from eggs I bought from someone else so I have no clue what was in his father. His father had a really weird comb too. Here's a front shot of Pretty Boy's comb:

So - Guineas were a bust for me .... way to loud ALL THE TIME .... they did watch good - but then they got mean with the chickens when I lost my head roo.

SO - I'm game to try geese now - maybe .... Can they and will they roost and move with the chickens - not challenge me (I can't spend a lot time - a few trips a day - so they aren't pets) but alert for danger .... are they a target for hawks since they are white ? They won't honk all day will they? Just when they alert ?

Can I get Roman Tuft in some colors ? I know SOP is white - but I'd be glad to get culls or a different line that had colors in them.

From what I understand Male geese can be aggressive during mating season. There are of course different breeds of Geese so you might research and see which are best for you. Not all geese are white. Some grey, brown and black. Some big some smaller.

Gosling are expensive from hatcheries so I'd be sure I wanted them and had a secure situation. Too they are more work to bring up than chicks. At least my ducks were.

I like the idea of Picture Friday - I'm late to the party but .... Here are some pics a few weeks ago when it was transfer from brooder to grow out coop ....

Pecan - another Colo grand chick

Buckeye ....

Attila the Hen - another Colo grand-chick - love the play of the welsummer and EE in the feathers in this one

Well, last year's racist chicken (first time broody that killed only black chicks) has apparently agreed that discrimination is wrong!!! I had no choice but to give her this surprise black chick and she took it, even though it was several days after the grey chick. ;)
