NY chicken lover!!!!

Gorgeous picture Purpletie! Also, sounds like my chickens are the odd ones out on banana peels. They just will NOT eat them. I'll have to tell them everyone else's chickens say they're being silly.

Mine won't eat pumpkins, and I had lots of extra pie pumpkins this winter. They just refused to eat any, even smashed up.
I have them growing all over the place now, chipmunks must have planted seeds for me Lol!

Chickens are funny. Just like people you will find some like one thing and not another. I made cooked rhubarb the other day...one pen of silkies loved it the other didn't...so even on the breed. Keep trying different goodies. Almost all mine are psycho for watermelon!!!!

Funny - my won't eat the peels at all - but when I cut a pumpkin in 2 and cook it very slightly in the oven - they are all over that ! Seeds and all - soon only the very outside tough skin is left.

Yeah - and mine won't eat peas !

So So So much rain the coop is in horrid shape on the floor ... I feel so bad - but at least they get out - even in the rain and go under the trees and bushes .... maybe I will get a chance to do some cleaning tomorrow. YUCK - this is as bad as the coop has ever been.

Do any of you worm your flock? I have been giving my chicks garlic, cayenne and mint...haven't seen worms but not sure if I should be doing more for them...

I have never wormed my flock until recently. I have one hen that's looking tatty feather-wise. I've checked and treated for mites/lice and it made no difference. So, now everyone gets wormed...I'm using an herbal concoction from an herbalist. The chickens are reluctant to drink the water now, the mixture turns it grey/black. You wouldn't think they would be so picky after drinking out of puddles!

Does anyone know of a US source for Flubenvet 1% ?? Would love to get some. It's granular and can be added to feed, also herbal I believe.

New to chickens in Herkimer County, NY. I have 7 11-week old chicks and 4 2-week old chicks, all barnyard mixes. I have to separate the cockerels soon from the older batch. I'm moving 3 of the 4 cockerels to a separate pen. The rain is preventing the construction of the other coop. This has been a wonderful experience for my kids so far, but we haven't gotten to the egg-laying or processing part.

Welcome to BYC... you and I live pretty close to each other I am in Oneida County. Enjoy your chickens they are so much fun.

Well good garden o' peas where are you. My birds love pumpkins and squash. I store it up and let it freeze, then bring some indoors to thaw. I can always use pumpkins and squash.

Looked at some Pilgrim goslings today but not set up for them. Yet. Still to much to do. Cleaned the gutters today so they should run better, but still could use a better pitch.

I'm measuring my days by how much I do each day. Got everything I planned but there is still lots left.

I read some article that pumpkin seeds are natural de-wormers too. Although out of season now. I guess I better get some in the ground! I would love to cut some hay for them if the weather permits.

@boskelli...is your herbal concoction anything that I can make at home?
