Hello! I recently joined BYC ...but I have raised chickens for five years now. I did my first hatch this summer and now with nine chicks...I am realizing that six out of the nine are probably roosters. Does anyone have any interest in them or any suggestions where a nearby bachelor pad might be. I have someone who will take them to eat, but I just can't go there yet. They are currently four weeks old and they are all unusual breeds. I have a heritage Dominique, necked neck, barred Cochins, blue favacuana and a barred olive eggers. The eggs were purchased through my pet chicken. It was fun to do but now the hard part comes. I don't mind keeping them until they get older, but when the crowing starts, they gotta go. Someone told me of a place in NJ. A sanctuary of sorts. A friend of mine went there to get a new rooster and had the pick of the lot! Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am close to NYC. Thanks for sharing any ideas!
You probably have 8-10 weeks to figure it out. I know my SIL is looking for a new rooster, but I am already hatching a batch for her to choose from, and we are way upstate from you.
