NY chicken lover!!!!

Speaking of processsing, I have 10 roos to on sunday. They have just put on some good weight this past week. Have to call my friend about picking up some of the older hens. Her mom is looking to add to the flock and wants older hens. Good way of making room to put the pullets in the big coop. It's interesting to see both groups out at the same time. The Duke keeps them separate. No squabbles or fighting just body language. Even with 10 sons and 10 daughters, the boys never approach their father or challenge him and vice versa. I attribute this to not only his temperments that has passed on to them but also the fact that they are heritage breed. All my other roosters from hatcheries were always fighting and looking to flog me. Not one of these boys does that. It's quite nice to have such roos around. Of course The Duke will be staying permanently because he is such a superb roo in every way.

It seems the coons like to visit around midni every night according to the game cam. They can't get into the coops but do snoop around to see if there is any food available. I make it a point to keep my yard extra clean now that they and the bear have been around. Treats are only little bits that get cleaned up quick.

My honey is fine now that I transferred some out of the jars into another jar. Just needed more room. I have started using raw honey in place of sugar in some recipes and it's worked out well. Hopefully these jars last till the spring chickenstock when I can get more!

Today I should hear about the job. Pins and needles till then. Have a good day everyone!

No. Thought about trying opossum I shot in the coop, it was to gross looking.
If someone else prepared them I would try it.
That guy from 'Bizzare Foods' Andrew Zimmerman said they're good.

Seems to me that guy would eat s*** on a shingle - he's gross!

I do. I have a whole tote full. Most have holes near the rear pockets or crotch (climbing on tractors), but I saved them for making a braided rug. That was supposed to be one of the demos by Cass at Tabs Chickenstock. Combination of jeans from my dad, brother, husband and me.

Dare I say perhaps you need some Duluth jeans? Though they are for men they might work. I saw they have some "Free Range" underwear for men.

They're very funny.
Morning all. So glad the weather has cooled off some. My plants are going crazy. Blackberries are setting fruit again, tomatoes are loaded as are the cucumbers. My daughters garden is just crazy so we will be canning and pickling lots.

Looks about time to process the roosters. Those boys are starting to get on my nerves. Getting on my pullets nerves as well. Funny how quiet quad standoffish they get when their father comes by the run and just stands there staring at them. The Duke certainly lives up to his namesake!

Hoping to hear good news tomorrow on a new job. Say a prayer please.

I had a good time at nuttys. Looking forward to the spring chickenstock if it's not too far away. I hope to have silkies for sale by then as well as reds. Always a work in progress. The silkie chick's I have now are showing lots of promise as they grow. As long as the bear stays away, I should have some nice birds.

Have to finish some baby stuff crochet wise then back to the afghans. So many things I want to make. Going to teach my mother when we go down to visit. She wants to learn. Thinking of making some small things and posting them locally to see if they sell. Worth a try anyways.

Glad to see everyone's birds are doing well. Today is number 2 daughters birthday so I am taking her out for lunch. Have a good day everyone!

Of course we all hope you get this job and it's everything you hope.

As for berries? I wonder do folks barter with them or have they ever considered it? I'm so tired these days of my berries not taking off. I got about a cup of black berries that I didn't even plant. I also got two cups of Red currants. Not enough for a recipe but fortunately I had two cups in the freezer from the last time I paid to pick.

I will be honest and say we don't NEED berries. There is plenty of fruit in the freezer to be done up.

Birds? I've got four Marans who look like they may have wasted time sitting. I've got four chicks in the brooder and only sure one is a Maran. Three others sitting on Duck eggs.

A CR on eggs and Big Delores on eggs. Why I have no idea. I don't need anymore chicks.

Well take care folks and be good,

If you don't have to why would you? Of course lets not forget that poor girl who had to survive two days in the mountains of Washington. She says tv Survivor helped her.

Do YOU think you'd survive in the wilderness?

Once again, have a nice day,

Rancher

Everychickie wants in where they don't belong -- Gee - Guess I understand - since they don't have anywhere else to go -as seen from this picture ..... um hum .....

They always want to be where they shouldn't be  Did you find anything out about Trouble? So far Lacie is neutral about the goslings. They follow her around at a distance and she isn't mean to them, so that's good. They look at her like she's crazy though when she comes up to me to be petted and chew on my pants. They were goose raised and are still skittish. Lacie was imprinted on me and thinks I'm her mom.

I threw out some feed in the garden ( bag was molding ) too damp in the bilco .
.I think I am going to showel it up & put it way in the back of our lot ..dont need to attract predators to the coop
