Speaking of processsing, I have 10 roos to on sunday. They have just put on some good weight this past week. Have to call my friend about picking up some of the older hens. Her mom is looking to add to the flock and wants older hens. Good way of making room to put the pullets in the big coop. It's interesting to see both groups out at the same time. The Duke keeps them separate. No squabbles or fighting just body language. Even with 10 sons and 10 daughters, the boys never approach their father or challenge him and vice versa. I attribute this to not only his temperments that has passed on to them but also the fact that they are heritage breed. All my other roosters from hatcheries were always fighting and looking to flog me. Not one of these boys does that. It's quite nice to have such roos around. Of course The Duke will be staying permanently because he is such a superb roo in every way.
It seems the coons like to visit around midni every night according to the game cam. They can't get into the coops but do snoop around to see if there is any food available. I make it a point to keep my yard extra clean now that they and the bear have been around. Treats are only little bits that get cleaned up quick.
My honey is fine now that I transferred some out of the jars into another jar. Just needed more room. I have started using raw honey in place of sugar in some recipes and it's worked out well. Hopefully these jars last till the spring chickenstock when I can get more!
Today I should hear about the job. Pins and needles till then. Have a good day everyone!
