NY chicken lover!!!!

I don't care how good this hatch is (day 19 is taking forever!), the next time I pay for hatching eggs I will pay for a new incubator too for the reasons mentioned here. Too much of a headache. There's a better way. That said, I'm borrowing my Little Giant still air incubator and that is the right price for me. If you want to try incubating, borrow an incubator first if you can. Try the free method first. If it works for you, great. If not you'll have time to get more advice (I'm looking up the Genesis now.)

Days 19 & 20 are always the toughest for me. I'm hopeful thru the entire incubation, then I get to 19 & 20 and everything seems too still & im always convinced I did something wrong along the way. But then stuff hatches and often late (day 22) which prolongs my internal torture. But I end up w a bunch of cute little fluffy butts. :) Sounds like ur doing everything right. I'm sure at least some of them will hatch for u. And whatever happens, u will have learned a lot from the experience. Keep us posted! :)

I'm on Day 21 for the first eggs I set. It's still early Day 20 for the rest. My sister in law warned me that there would probably be nothing out until Day 22. Internal torture is an excellent description of this. Thank you for the encouragement.

Morning all. Today all the roos get processed and whatever girls I missed moving last night will go into the Dukes coop. That coop is still figuring out who is where in the pecking order since the 7 oldest hens went to their new home. Lots of chasing and pecking right now. At least my yard will get quieter. The young roos are being noisy, but that ends today.

I have both the Genesis and brinsea incubators. Use them in the spare bedroom with the shades drawn and door closed. Works better that way. I like them both.

Last day of work is tomorrow then vacation. Off to Georgia to see my girls and my mother. Start my new job when I get back.

Stay cool everyone!

The Ivemectin pour on I use requires no withdraw but there are those who say it doesn't work. I have to use it as it's all Iv'e got.  Other wormers require withdraw for far too long.   I think it's a scam.

I wish I had Echinacea. I've been planting anything to attract bees.  I was fixing a door and there was a bumble bee that built it's nest in  a hole nearby.  I hated to spray it but had no choice.  I'm still not sure it's gone.   Anyhow I buy plants and stick them anywhere.

I do toss the scratch strategically too. Into the weeds along the fence.  This way they have to scratch and hunt and kill the seeds.

I will put this out there. I'm not sure how much longer I'll have chickens.  We are in the talking stage of selling and moving into an apartment. The maintenance on the house is too hard. There are too many things I can't do and can't afford to pay to have done.  The kids are no help.  Needless to say they will be sorely disappointed when I die and find I've left everything to the Old Chickens Rest Home.  And I'm NOT kidding!  That is of course if I don't go first. DW will give them the shirt off her back and be buried naked. She's just to good to them.

Well take care, late night. Had to pick up DD from the airport.

Rancher, too tired, Hicks.

I am sorry you have to make this tough decision, I am hoping when my time comes I will have instilled the love of land and homesteading on my kids and the will love and respect my land and want to help and keep it on the family but only time will tell they are still young (5 and 8) and already help around more than most teenagers, my son helped lagbolt the top beams together for the goat barn and was very proud of himself

Eprinex can be used for worming without egg withdrawal. Found it at TSC (labeled for large animal i think).

I think Runnings has a foam incubator fan, turner, and thermometer sold together. (Farm innovator?)

With the humidity being high this spring I barely added any water to this last hatch and only candled at lock down. I think this last hatch was the best of the bunch this year. I also kept them in a room with the curtains drawn and door shut trying to keep temp.more even.

how much do you use and how do you administer, think it may be time to do their worming

also not chickens but hoping maybe someone has the info hiding up their sleeve, looking for a safe worming option for my goats the young ones in particular (all right around 4 months) i have been using the dumor pellets but not really sure of their effectiveness

Thanks in advance :)

Quick question... I hope it doesn't seem like a dumb one..When you can the chicken, do you cook it before you can it or does it cook fully during the canning process? I know that it has to be canned in the pressure can, but was wondering if it was put in raw or cooked?

Don't have goats but there is a thread for goats I'm sure. IF you don't get an answer here.

There is a canning thread and lots of folks there to ask. I don't can meats because I'm too afraid of killing someone.
