NY chicken lover!!!!

There are five. I'm pretty sure I heard movement in at least two. I'm really bummed, but my marans sit but I don't usually get many chicks because the coop gets so hot I think. I also don't have a good light to candle the marans eggs. I think hatching requires a cooler area.

So I have three under a C. Rock and two under Big Delores. One of Big Delores is a quitter, I'm pretty sure. There are veins but it should be near done today. I'll candle tonight again.

I will be pulling all eggs this week from the Marans and the C. Rock and Big Delores. They've been sitting far too long.

There is a new C. Rock on eggs and a Delaware went broody the end of last week. They're on Del eggs.

Perhaps you should bring a couple of more eggs just in case. If you'd like. I can replace any duds of the Delaware eggs with Duck eggs. I should be able to see some life by the end of this week.

TTFN,

Rancher

Anyone call Melissa about this chickenstock thing? I'm about to send her a card, even though I don't know her last name. FYI I'm not good with names, It's better if I use your BYC name.
These are my last duck hatches of the year. I'm over my limit of ducks. I need to rehome/process some of my extra drakes as it is. I may try one more chicken hatch though.

Well now I do know two more have started to pip. One on the wrong end, one making some sound. They're under Big Delores.

I've got the two in with two chicks and they seem fine. It's not likely these two chicks will be ready to int.....integrate......you know stick with the other chickens for some time.

These two are black and white. I know you wanted the gray ones?

I can tell they're doing okay because the brooder is getting messy.

Did you not want these? I will keep them if you say to. I expect to get ducks sooner or later. BUT ...........................
These are yours after all. Well Duh! You can sell these. I swear I'm getting senile.

I'll keep you posted on the other eggs and you can let me know when you want to come and get them. You've got my number right? You can call and I'll let everyone know when you show up to give them to you. If I'm not home you can still come and get them.

What ever you decide is fine. PM me and we can talk further okay?

Your friend and mine,
Rancher

Is there a back up plan for Chicken Stock?  Cold Spring Farms In Sharon Springs is organic feed company I just learned about today anybody use their feed?   I change green feeds daily what every abundant, 50% grain feed change over monthly.  Sad is when your dog eats more vegetables then your Kid!
.

use Cold Springs Farm amount 25- bag.#40 pound bag. My chicks love it

I'll send you a pm..but yes of course I want them! I am always wishing for blue ones, but I love them all...

They both look like Marans crosses. Neither one has correct color.

Thank - you for pointing that out, I'm finding it a bit difficult learning the breed's finer points just by online research. I'm interested at some point in raising purebred black copper marans and the silver cuckoos again if I can find some birds I really like. I was just looking at the breed standards and the hen today coincidentally. Regardless, I like both the birds and do not plan on raising chicks from them.

Oddly i dont find the ny forums very helpful or friendly. Ive posted questions in here and basically been overlooked or ignored. It seems if you are not an all day regular..no one really answers...sadly...i hope other newbies to these forums are getting better results. Just my experience...

not that we try to ignore, some days it's just hard to catch up. Sorry you are not pleased with us. Try again. Please.

A side note!! I hate making jelly.
I like making jelly when it comes out right.

Did I mention here my Blackberry/blueberry deal. Well the Blackberries were to seedy and it came out too hard.. So I dumped it all back in the pan with three cups of water. Boiled it and ran it through a strainer. Then I put the just over four cups of juice in the pan and boiled it and added a packet of Mrs. Wages pectin. It came out, not great but not to bad either. Not quite Jelly but not quite jam either. I probably could have gotten away with less pectin, but at least I saved it.

I now have to redo the grape and cranberry. The cranberry is good but to soft for my liking. The grape is definitely too soft.

I find that the powdered pectin works best. The liquid never gives me a good set. Well not never the recipe for the Strawberry/pineapple came out good. I've got a Pineapple on the counter to do more.

Oh and I think frozen berries makes a difference in how long you have to boil jams and jelly. Fresh fruit doesn't have as much water.
