NY chicken lover!!!!

Getting back on track from pulling 46 hour shift, good to know I still got it in me-) We took the chicks back to the guy we got the eggs from as part of the hatching agreement ended up bring home three hens and a gray tiger kitten. So I'd say my first hatch paid off!

Well the other day I purchased purina scratch like I normally do at TSC. I opened it up and fed the girls a little then went to work. That evening I went to check on feed and when I looked in the scratch container, the bag and scratch was covered with weevil bugs.
This waa the first time I had ever seen them so I had to look up on BYC what they even were,.. Gross. They completely covered my hand when I pulled out the scoop.
I had to dump the bag, I could not keep putting my hand in there to get scratch, plus they were hopping into my feed containers.

TSC refunded my money but said they were use to them. They are all over in their back storage room.

Again...YUCK!

Ya they are a beetle but I could not stomach putting my hand in and getting them on me.

They look like this. http://www.ecocarepest.com/wp-content/uploads/Rice-weevil.jpg

I dumped the vag so my chickens did eat them..they were just yuck! And usually bugs. Have no effect on me.

Having a bearded dragon, I regularly reach into a big bin of cockroaches to pull some out for her, lol. I think if I found weevils I'd be okay, but bugs are definitely not everyone's cup of tea!

I think my flock would be in heaven if I gave them a bowl of crawling critters. They kill everything smaller than them. Including but not limited to any chipmunk that thinks their feed looks tasty. They have eaten 2 that I know of and countless small reptiles.

Oh well chickens enjoyed them all over the ground.. I just didnt appreciate them all over my arm. Even though tonight i went and rounded up worms for my molting ladies ... Worms yes, weevils..no
