NY chicken lover!!!!

I have a question. I was assigned deviled eggs for a Christmas party on Saturday. Are there any special tips to making them with fresh eggs or do I devil as normal? Also how on earth do I peel these dang things?!?!

I have heard that Brahmas' are gentle giants - RIRs' are a bit pushy and bossy, so not sure on that combo. RIRs' lay well. How about sex links if you want eggs?
As a source - look at mypetchicken.com.
I know a Del/RIR cross produces sex links or vice versa. I wonder if a Brahma the same White to a RIR would produce a sex link?

It's too wet here or I would have gotten Brahmas. But then my Marans are feather footed. Though not as feathered as a brahma I think.

Thanks! I would like to buy almost laying pullets. Any source recommendations?

I like the Australorpe my girls from spring lay most every day. Good natured, friendly, and pretty. Also considered an all purpose breed. An Australorpe hold the record for laying the most eggs in one year 364 out of 365 days. Maturing a tiny bit slower than the production reds but only buy 4-6 weeks depending on the bird.

Now you know I'm only kidding, right?  I had silkies for a bit. Came back from Alabama with hatching eggs and three were silkies. I was going to keep them but the rooster was not nice and he crowed and crowed, so I sold them.

I don't know Sally and I'm not sure what information you mean, but I do read a lot.  DW and I like to go to Barnes and Nobles, have coffee and read magazines for free.  Anything that has chickens stuff catches my eye. Even silkies.

I would never let anyone harm silkies, though I won't go near them without my tinfoil hat on.  :lau

I read that in the movie the Body Snatchers originally it was Silkies and not Pods that were taking over. :lau

Rancher you are a funny man...lol...Tin foil hat and all

Murray hatchery has a new breed for sale called a Whiting True Blue. I'm going to order me some on the spring. They lay blue eggs they aren't Easter eggers, araucanas or ameraucanas
Your thoughts

I'm getting some of these too. I'm hoping they lay eggs that are as blue as they show.

How can I eliminate these blasted advertisements. I think that's why it only happens on BYC. Because it's got to pull up these stupid video and other advertisements.

The way that would benefit BYC would be to buy a Golden Feather membership in the store. With that you get the option to turn off the ads and you get a few other perks too.

If you can't do that, you can use Ad Block Plus. This is an extension for your browser that blocks ads. However, it takes revenue away from websites when you use it so if you like a website, it's best to allow ads on that particular site. If possible to help BYC out I'd go with the Golden Feather membership, but this would be the other way to get rid of ads.

Hello everyone!!!
I am a happy chicken mom today!!! I have my very first broody girl.
As it turns out it the cull I got from Pyxis, Midget, she's the cutest little Ayam Cerami. I have had a stomach bug for the past few days so my husband has been taking care of the girls. However the my husband has been upset cause "his" chicken hadn't been coming out of the nest box for dinner and he thought she was sick, so I went out tonight and there she was big as life still setting in the box.She had 8 eggs under her, however I don't really want chicks from the BSL. I gave her back 3 EE/RIR eggs because I know those are fertile.
I would love some EE/AC however "Chixsee" is a bit over amorous with the little chicken and usually falls off face planting pulling out his beak with a bunch of dirt stuck to it.
Now for the questions.
When and how do I move her?
I have a giant dog kennel I have set up to put her in with enough room for a nest box food and water and room to poo.
Not ideal but that's what I have. I hadn't planned on setting up a brooder til spring but my husband wants her to set.
Do you think it will be okay?
I'm so excited and so nervous and not even hatching the little buggers.
I know it's all very much old hat for you chicken people but I'm very excited!
