Try and find an actual feed store or go to Tractor Supply. The feed will be labeled properly and someone might be able to make sure you get the right stuff.

It was a feed store. In Long Island. They had bags and bags of stuff. 'Hay loft feed and grain ' ,it's called.

The starter I got from TSC was bigger than I thought it should be or used to be. They ate it just fine though. If your concerned about it you could crunch it up finer by putting some on a plate and crunch it up by pushing down on it with a cup or something hard, kinda mortar and pedstal or whatever.

The nearest tractor supply is over an hour away. I asked my cousin to buy this for me bc the feed store is down the road from her house. And I was visiting her for New Year's Eve. So she got it for me from them earlier in the day. I had gotten grower feed from them the last time I visited her, but I didn't use it yet, so I don't know if the rooster will like it

Thanks beer can. I actually do have a small mortar and pestle. I will do that. They pecked at the feed but I'm not sure if they actually ate any.

The bag sys nothing. It has the company's name, and it says poultry. It doesn't even say starter feed. This is what the feed looks like.

That looks right for chick started crumbles. It looks bigger then they can eat, but they will do just find. They may be pecking at it to break it up a little on their own. I would be careful how fine you crush it. If you turn it into a powder it might be to fine for them. That is the size of the feed that I give to my two day old chicks and they do just fine.

I agree. They will peck at it to break it up. Would you post pics of the chicks too? I love baby chick pics.
