NY chicken lover!!!!

It cant hurt to wear a mask ..
how you get treated for allergies ...is you get tested .
When they figure out what you react to....they test what level you react to .
They then give you a shot or drop below that level ..that helps you build up a immunity to that allergen .
Of course if you are deathly allergic to something ..it is not a good idea to expose yourself to it .
I've had the shots and tests and do take a daily pill. I'm old I've been to the docs and all that stuff. This is nothing new to me.

Allergies/asthma tend to get worse as we age I'm told.

There all all kinds of opinions and ideas and that kind of stuff.

So you see I've been tested and that kind of stuff. I don't think Bronchitis and Pneumonia are caused by allergies are they?

Of course the mask will help with the dust and Lord knows chickens produce a great deal of dust. Don't they?

Nealy forgot. Folks if you're taking an herbal supplement or the like TELL YOUR DOCTOR. These things ARE drugs and can interact with medications you're taking.

Just because it's "Natural" does not mean it's not a drug.

Lord keep us well,

Rancher

Probably about a dozen or so.. One thing about moving chickens is they get stressed and this can cause problem. I'll have no trouble "rehoming" chickens. If I offer them for free I'll have no shortage of takers.

Lots of folks want everything for cheap or free.
I must have missed the post about you being ill, Rancher! I'm sorry you're not feeling well, I'll go back and find what I missed.

well maybe I can talk my husband into letting me have them when your ready. There is no reason to just give them away, I can bring you manure and eggs in exchange. Well eggs if your girls are still in low production. I have a coop empty that they could go into and my girls free range so until they get aquainted there would be no fighting. If you find them a good safe home that's great if not let me know .

I'm sorry ur not feeling well. Hope u can lighten ur load w/o having to give too many birds away. Winter chicken chores are not so fun, definately worse if ur not feeling well. Hope you feel better soon!

A couple people I work with have decided they're not interested in winter chicken chores. They seem to think that since I have chickens, that I'd want to take in their random miscellaneous chickens they no longer want. A girl I think very highly of as a kind and compassionate one asked me if I'd take in her entire flock of 34 birds (including only 8 roosters) lol. As graciously as I could, I let her know my Chick Inn is full. When I told my DH about the offer, he practically had a stroke just thinking about it.

We have a coffee grinder we use just for the chicks.
When you don't have crumbles....we put the regular
feed in the grinder and it works. Our chicks are 6
months old. Regards, Aria

Quote: Rancher, Keep a dozen or so. AND wear a mask. The dander will be less from
less chickens. Less problems all the way.

You know CHICKENS are a way of life for you. Have a happy life with less chickens.
and ..less problems. I do remember when my husband hatched and got roosters...
the larger amount of them...caused us a lot of problems.

Sell at a reasonable price. Most who understand will pay what they are worth.
There are people out there...who do realize the cost and effort to hatch and raise.

Stay well. Regards, Aria

Poulin makes good feed.  Just make sure you get "chick starter" and not layer crumbles.  They look the same but the ingredients are different.

Well, I did ask for chick starter, horsekeeper, and this is what I got. It just surprised me, since I was expecting a finer, meal-like feed. And maybe they don't label their starter as such, but I'm pretty sure the grower I bought earlier was labeled as grower.

I noticed this year that the starter looker a little coarser than I remembered, but even the bantam chicks did okay with it. There is enough smaller stuff in it that they manage until they grow some and as someone else said, they peck it apart. I had a lot of broody hens so I picked up a small bag just in case they managed to hatch something.

A few years ago I got chickens from a breeder and they raise all their poultry on game bird starter because it has higher protein and the crumbles are smaller. I suppose so little things like quail can eat it. I've been using it for three years now and can see the difference in how robust and healthy the youngsters look.

Ok, so now I feel a bit foolish. I found the label on the feed bag. It was a fifty pound bag, so when I was checking the bag for a label I never thought to flip the thing upside down. Who puts their label on the bottom of the bag?

But I guess it makes sense, since the store keeps them lying on their sides, stacked on each other. So then the label is visible to the front of the stack. It's just a piece of paper attached to the seam of the bag. Anyway, it does say chick starter crumble and its 20 percent protein. Didn't see a date, but since I missed this label, it could be there and I can't see it
