I'm so sorry. They get into our hearts and it is hard to see them suffer at all. I have 2 of my original birds left and this morning, Red looks like she was moving slower then normal. She is a sexlink that I got from TSC. Before I got sick I moved some of the big kids into the empty turkey hoop coop, but I left her with the littler ones so she didn't have to much competition...That and the littler boys don't bother her like the 2 big boys did.WELL ...Sweet .. Budgie my comet passed ..she was almost 4 years ...Really Old for a Comet.
Most places say they live 2 years
She was so weak she couldnt stand up on Saturday ..
I tried to ease her passing by giving her some whiskey .Sat night .and held her & pet her
She would NOT budge ...it just made her sleepy ..she fought death..
Every time I thought she would pass ..she didnt ...she would catch her breath ..she had a strong heart
she would hear a sound in the room and she would open her eyes & look at me
at 4 am I decided she wasnt going to pass so I finally went to bed ..She slept in a box next to my bed
I called the vet on Sunday ..to see if I could get something to put her to sleep
he was closed ....the message said go to emergency in Syracuse .
Im thinking of seeing if I can get something to have on hand to easily put them to sleep .
I held her on sunday for 3- 4 hours
Budgie finally died late sunday afternoon ..when I was out taking care of the flock
