I'm sorry to hear about everyone's chick issues. I haven't ordered any I bought mine local last year. This year I'm going to hatch some of my mutts and buy some more at chickenstock May 28th. I'm very excited about going to Sidney this week to place an order for meaties at the feed place by KMART. I'm going to get 2 types, CX and rangers, and see what does best and what taste best.
Oh on a different note!! I have an add on Craigslist for eggs. No big deal right? Haha!! Wrong. People keep asking if I laying hens for sale then they get mad when I say no. I offer to sell them eggs or hatching eggs, I've even offered to hatch chicks for them. Grumpy people still want to call me names.
On a good note, I might have chicks soon. Crooked , my WL with spine problems has been on the same 4 eggs for 3 days now, maybe 4. They are marked so I take all but those 4. She is mean and down right ugly when I collect from her. She moves her tail end over in the nest long enough for someone to lay then shoves them out and tucks the egg under her. She has successfully covered 2/3 of her body with bedding just by making Bob her orpington hubby stand and kick it over to her then come and put it on her back. Bob is massive compared to Crooked she's maybe 3lbs and he's got to be 6 or 7lbs. He has followed her tiny crippled body around since day 1 though.
