That's good news about the house. I'm sorry to hear about your bad hatch, better luck with the next!

Glad you got a reprieve but you really should use that time to find something more permanent. It will be harder to move with more animals IF you have to rent. Plus money you spend on the animals could be set aside to buy that dream home.I wrote a post the other day and thought I posted it but I guess I deleted it somehow. Anyway as far as moving goes they are selling our house for more then it's worth so I'm not worried about it selling quickly. Also they are putting it in the contract that when the house sells we get a full year to move out. Now that that is out of the way I reordered my welsh harliquin duck eggs, and a few SFH eggs. I was building a coop from some scraps for silkies but am thinking I will use it for the ducks. It has ground height nest boxes, will the ducks use them? I'm thinking not?
On another note I decided to not keep the marsh daisy, twentse and east Frisian gull chicks from GFF. Let me know if your interested in any. I will say the twentse are very fast feathering in.
My hatch of brahmas did not go so well. I had a lot of malpositions, almost all had head between feet. I have another brahma batch going into lockdown Sunday. I did get 3 cute little fluffballs from the first batch though.

Been there, done that and learned my lesson. I had to give up my dogs and don't ever want to be in that position again.
My dd and hers talk of buying a trailer to put on land across from his parents, BUT are going to buy a Seadoo. They're paying $900 a month on rent right now for a three room apartment on the lake. With two kids!! You can't tell them anything though. Always dreaming for that big pay day.
Make getting your own house a priority and start your own farm then. Trust me the animals will still be there. Heck I've given away chicks every year practically. Anyone want hatching eggs come and get them, before I get rid of the lavender EE's.
Chickens are a wonderful source of protein for us- those delicious eggs! I hope you do wind up in a better situation. Just keep your eyes open for a place so you don't get stuck as a casualty of the sale. Thanks rancher, I see where you are coming from. With soon to be 5 kids I don't expect we will be buying anything anytime soon. I have found that it's easy to sell the chickens or as you said give away if you have to. I feel at this point it's more important to feed my kids healthy and affordably then to have a morgage. If I were to save every penny and it took 5 years to buy, that to long to think about my family health. I figured I would give it my best go now. See if there is any way to cover costs or even make a few bucks. Maybe we just won't like or be able to "farm" as a family. That would greatly impact the home we want to buy.
I hope the interview goes well! I'm about 40 miles from Albany and my Dad used to drive it every day, he hated it....if a short commute isn't out of the question, there's got to be something - maybe Rensselaer county. I'll ask him and see what he thinks, he's got a ton of former co-workers that are all over the area.So my husband has a very promising interview for an attorney position in Troy NY next Friday. Do any of you live close in that area around Albany? I'm not sure if we would rent or buy a house because we would have to sell our home. But I'd hope I could find someone to care for my chickens if I do move somewhere where they aren't allowed briefly until we find a home. I would of course pay for their care. Exciting yet nerve wracking!
