NY chicken lover!!!!

Little Ninja - when we got home from the hospital..
walked right up the steps in front of me and right in the house with us ..He was so sweet & hungry .
.I have 1 chick so I feed him separate with his Momma ..While I was gone she decided she didnt want to be his Mama any more ..
So I fed him first ...
I am so thankful for him ...He has become my best buddy..follows me around the yard , lets me carry him everywhere..
Such a Sweety We both were falling asleep in the hammock on sunday
at night he doent want to roost in the coop Coz MAMA doesnt protect him anymore ..hes walking back and forth looking up at me ..how can I roost on her ?

this eve I put a separate roost up for him ...he figured it out then ..UP he flew to my shoulder .
So I took him over to the roost and stood with / over him ...till everyone settled ...( I am usually inside while they settle anyway ..& he was keeping me warm too ..LOL
if we let him he would probably come inside too.
Today was miserable out so I didnt spend much time with him ..I hope tomorrow is better ...
He comes to NIn NIn

omygosh he is adorable I bet they all really missed you! hope you feel better soon and so sorry bout your hurt hen.

I just bought the farm house coop and extension pen from tracker supply. I was wondering what would I need to do to the coop for the winter months? I new to owning chickens and even though winter is just ending I'm about to build the coop and would love advise.
I bought a chinese fir coop when I was just starting out too. It was quick and easy. BYC has a really good predator proof coop building section on here. I thought I was going to lose birds this winter from that -25 spell. Nope- Lost some combs but not any birds. So, the old chicken keepers were right- birds don't need much just other birds to keep them warm and shelter fresh water and access to food.

@Gramma Chick recovering from surgery is tough, especially because of just wanting to feel like normal again. Take it easy though!

I'm sorry about your hen losses lately, never is easy...I'm glad your little roo is being such a good buddy for you!

Hugs to you Gramma. Hang in there. I'm glad your not so little chick is helping keep your spirits up.

Good morning, everyone. The wind was ferocious last night. I haven't checked for damage yet, but I'll walk the property today to check everything out. I wish there was more time in a day.

I think I might have 1 gold Pavlovskaya cockerel and 3 gold Pavlovskaya pullets. I'm going to sell them as a quad, I think, to make room for more Brabanters. They're only 4 weeks old, so I would be waiting until they're 8 weeks old to sell them. I haven't decided on price yet.

I have to get to work... The list of things to do isn't getting any shorter.

Since you are all fellow repurposers: Anyone interested in some chain link fence? It is only 4' high, so not really good for a chicken fence, but thought maybe someone can use if for a dog pen. We are burying our in-ground pool, never used it in the 6 years since we owned the house as it was in poor shape. It is 24.5' wide, 46' long, green coated, has one gate.

My Easter hatch is looking like a disaster. Did end up with 4 Wyandottes, 5 Spitz (2 silver, 2 blue, 1 chamois) from the incubator. Broody had 5 out of 6 hatch, 6th one died after pipping. Think the early incubator problems made them much too large, then added too much humidity at lockdown in the new bator. The last couple chicks to hatch were sticky. Leaving them in a couple more days to be sure. Hubby wants to get TSC chicks, but I'd rather hatch again when it is nicer out at Chickenstock time. It is all a learning process, but still much happier with the Hovabator.

@Chicken girl 15 that your ad on Craig's List looking for a trampoline? Lol. I didn't get far on building my greenhouse. Took it apart, stood it up, glad it's a 14'er, must be 7' high. I have a old screen door that will fit perfect. Was going to make it 20' long with chainlink fence poles, wife talked me into 10' so I got pvc, plastic, and lumber. 10'x14' will be very useful.
I'm looking for another smaller one maybe 10' for a hoop coop chicken tractor, hopefully to fill with giant capons this summer. :)
yupp that's me. I have a really neat idea but no trampoline.

I can always use extra chain link. How much were you planning to ask for it? Where are you located?

Pupletie PM'd me about it, so she has first dibs. But I'm in Marathon, NY. Make an offer. May or may not be able to get the upright posts, they are set in the cement walk around the pool which would require much more time and effort to get them out of the way. The brackets and top bar is easy enough to disassemble.
