What do y'all feed your chicks? I just have dumor starter feed from tractor supply. Looking for organic options, where to buy in the Buffalo area?

How old were your babies? What is this "rat hole"? What do you think cold have done this? All my spitz babies are gone :,( They were there and fine this morning, but hubby went up to collect eggs a little while ago and found black in one corner, a silver dragged from under the Eglu wire. Found another under the hay tarp, next to a rat hole. Haven't found blue or gold's bodies yet. Egg count is down today too. Devastated.

oh no! So sad. I'm terrified of the day I will lose chickens to predators. I hope your hens recover quickly and you find the culprit.

Thanks everyone. Daughter is very upset her little blackie roo was killed. They were from the Eater hatch. Brooded them in the house because they were special. Just put them out in the Eglu last weekend, but it was the one with the bad cage (hubby fell on it during winter). Never had anything other than the neighbors dog bother my chickens day or night. All of the chickens free range, but the spitz were in the Eglu in the barn. At night they got locked in the house portion. We have a stack of hay in the horse barn, tarp covering to keep it clean (aka poo free) and stop sun bleaching. The one body we found was under the tarp near a hole. We have rats, but haven't recently had problems (stuff poison down the holes under cement, backfill with dirt, set object over top). We were away in the morning picking up more bees, then outside working on the bees all afternoon. And I got stung under my jacket/veil, right between the eyebrow/eyelid. Today is not a good one.
