NY chicken lover!!!!

Guess I better look my birds over better, turns out I do have a white NN cockerel, kinda hard to keep track of everybody with three breeds and a couple xtras and 30+ youngsters, not even sure how many I have...

Lol tell me about it! If you asked me how many birds I have I couldn't tell you - I could tell you I have four geese and that's it. Couldn't even tell you how many ducks I have because I wouldn't know whether or not to count the neighbor's pekins that have pretty much moved in. And chickens? Forget about it.

Those NNs are really nice, are they from show stock? They're one of the approved colors so I'm curious. I have NNs but not bred to the standard, just mixes that have the NN gene.

Hi Nutty, glad to hear from you!

These brinseas are a steal, if I wasn't already set with mine I'd be on this in a heartbeat. If anyone is looking for a good incubator this would be perfect for you.[/quote

Hey Pyxis
How is Rex doing? I just had a possum in my coop and it killed what was left of his liter mates. Now I am down a few females.hope all is well!

Been a little busy here too! Our NZ whites have produced a litter each - about 12 kits all together, don't know if they will all survive....all my hatchlings from Chickenstock are doing well, almost adults now!

Hope everyone is surviving this awful heat/drought. Our garden is looking very humble right now

I think you're looking for Metella - she got the welsummer cockerel from you :)

@Pyxis I got them from Cackle, mostly just for meat birds. I had planned on breeding the red/black one's, I like their color but not a approved color. The blacks have some white in their wing feathers, but these whites look pretty good. I really didn't want to get into another breed of white chickens but like you said is a approved color. I might just go with the whites. IDK, maybe I'll have to have both...

I wanted a second breed to focus on after the red sussex disappointed me, a breed that grows faster than the giant's. I was supposed to meet Linda from Eight Acres Farm when we were in Florida for German New Hampshire's, she had a death in the family and couldn't meet the day we drove through. So I decided to try naked necks instead, heard a lot of good stuff on them on the meat and egg production thread (that's where I heard Cackle had the best for hatchery NNs). I do prefer a pure breed bird, crosses are side projects. Wondering if I should decide on a standard color now.

Well, I think white, black, and red are the only approved colors, but breeders have a lot of other 'project' colors that still meet the standard in terms of type and form and just not color. Personally if I ever picked them up for breeding I'd probably go with BBS. Then I could have some color variety and still have the black to show if I wanted.

yeah seriously, amazing prices for those!

BCM hatch went super lame. Only 6 chicks. I'm not sure how many were/not fertilized of course, since you can't candle them or anything. Mrbaunlee said the humidity was too high for the first 2 weeks (~85%). Other than that the temp and turning was set correctly (I think they turned once per hour). But the 6/17 eggs to me is pretty much a failure. I'm kinda piffed and also, disappointed that I suck at this.

I also set one miniadvance with my eggs. the humidity of the first week of those was a little high. They are two days away from hatch so hopefully I get some bebes out of that. GAH. -_- plugging along without a clue LOL

PS: thanks for the heads up on the medication thing, ill have to check that out.

Well I picked up a friend today for Oreo, the Dutch bunny I got at Chickenstock. So far so good as far as them getting along, hopefully that holds up. She is super cute, nine weeks old today and she's a mini lop/Creme cross. Already nearly as big as 15 week old Oreo, so she's gonna be bigger than her, I'm sure.
I just got a new rabbit a little bit ago too. He's so little yet. I let DH name him so his name is now "Bocephus"... I introduced him to his future girlfriend for a few minutes. I think she likes him already
