I'm pretty devastated right now. I'm not sure if I mentioned it in here but I have had my neighbor's five ducks and two turkey jakes coming over and eating all my feed because I'm guessing the neighbor isn't feeding them enough.

Well, today I didn't leave food out free choice for my birds like I usually do because I was sick of feeding the neighbor's birds and planned to feed mine in the coop tonight. The turkeys (I don't blame the turkeys for this, I want to say ahead of time, I blame the humans that have left them so hungry it drove them to do this) went into my coop and broke into my brooder area to eat the feed out of the chick feeders.

While in there, they trampled to death all my sultans but one, all of my AC chicks including the ones I had hatched from CJ's game eggs except one, several of my guinea keets, one of my baby turkeys, and one of my peachicks.

This the same one with the pig?
If it was me, I'd send them a $1,200 bill, and have their birds on my grill or in my freezer.
So glad I have cool neighbors, so sorry Pyxis, bad neighbors are crap...

That is sad and I'd be mad as a hornet and in their face! Sometimes you have to be strong. Or call the ASPCA. They wouldn't be the first to have to give up their birds. I hear stories.

I'm still losing sleep over the neighbor kids coming through the yard and tearing the ears off my deer target/ornament. I can't imagine what would happen if something like what happened to you happened.

I'd say it's time to take a walk over to the neighbors. Or trap their birds and make them disappear.

I'm so mad for you! I wish I was closer to go tell off that neighbor myself! Start tallying up the costs of their irresponsible behavior. If their animals are being destructive to your animals, they shouldn't have their animals!

I am asked frequently how I keep my chickens from entering the road. I don't know for sure, but they do live a life of luxury here. Food dishes, water dishes, dust baths, grassy patches, shady patches, trees, bugs, treats, you name it. They have no reason to go to pavement. I suspect that if the neighbors of yours were feeding their animals well then they wouldn't have any desire to come to your house.

I agree that animal control/aspca/dec should be contacted. Someone should offer a resolution for you.

Girlie is great!!! She is currently helping a hen raise 8 babies that hatched Saturday. She finally moved her 2 Mojo babies out from under her. They now sleep in the coop, just not roosting yet. Their feet look good so far. One is crossed with Girlie I think and one is a white leghorn. I will get pics tomorrow of them. I'm still upset about Mojo, it's not even like he had other males in tormenting him. He was king of the little coop. He was my favorite simply because he was amazingly mean to and roo that snuck in and approached HIS Girlie. For malformed feet he was fast and brutal. He was perfectly healthy so I think something just scared him stiff. Sorry bad joke.

If the girlie/mojo chick is a boy you can breed him back to girlie for more Brabanter babies. If it's a pullet I'd probably be interested in buying it from you. If you send pics of the chicks I could probably tell you if it looks like my Brab babies.

As for Morehen's: there is no cure, but with treatment (i.e. a block on your financial accounts) can be controlled.

I think I read somewhere that more than 30 birds is greater than a backyard hobby. Don't quote me though. That might be an NPIP threshold for testing all the birds or only some. Also, if your income from farm endeavors is greater than $1000/yr it can be more than a hobby. To qualify as a farm business you merely have to show an effort to profit. I set up my whole system to attempt to make this a business. I admit that I have a lot of work to do before this farm gets near break even, much less profit.

I had just started to profit. Now I'm back to raising out babies, which is not profit at all.

Years ago (about 40) the post office would call me at the crack of dawn and beg me to come get my little critters. The screams of 100 chicks was driving them insane and they wanted them gone!

So Sorry ...is there anyway you can make it more turkey proof ?
It is time to Turn them in..( police , Animal control )...and or press charges against them .
They are hungry and need someone to take them and take care of them

the ladies at our post office are great. Most of them have a flock or some other farm critters. My husband didn't even wake me up. He went and got them and brought them in the house. All but 1 of 5 kids woke up yelling "shut the chicks up!!".

LOL they can be loud ....Cover them up they will go to sleep
