NY chicken lover!!!!

Had a hen commit suicide - must have tried flying up to get behind the plywood that is screwed in over the stall door opening, got her head caught between the plywood and the beam instead of landing in her intended area and hung herself. Was the small blue hen, probably Arkansas Blue. Stoopid chicken.

Kid with chickens

That is funny that I commented on the video you saw because I'd liked it on FB!
I've seen that video or a similar farms that do the same thing a few times & I wish they'd do that here in the US!

Sorry for your loss. I've had things like that happen a few times before, mostly with chicks or young stock that do crazy things that either get themselves into trouble or is a fatal mistake.

So Sorry ...it is still sad when they do it to themselves

@Gramma Chick How is Stinky doing?

it is still alive ...it has become a house chicken ...
I wish I knew if it was in pain ...it doesnt eat much ..or move around much ..
It went out with me today ...when I planted some tulip bulbs ..
it is afraid of the flock ...so it gets picked on by most everyone ..
So I try to keep it near me ..as it cant defend itself ...
So if I am not right with it it needs to be rescued

Quote: Gramma Chick, Planting Tulips....GREAT. The weather has been FALLISH...my husband let our chickens out today. EEK....hope we not be sorry. We have had so many problems and have kept them in the coop and the run. But. the weather is so great....he thought they would be happy to bet out. He thinks Chickens are people. ha ha maybe they are? Regards, Aria

I set mine free today. I have a little run on the coop, but i went full back yard with the 164 ft portable fence and the girls and 3 boys ran wild all day picking and scratching outside. Got the coop clean while they were outside playing.

..you should see mine waiting at the gate ...when they hear me coming .
And they are like little race horses when I open it ..
I believe all chickens should be let out ....But they should be kept track of ..
My 3 Roos do a good Job
My ears are always listening when they are out ...For their danger calls.
A couple of days ago ..I heard their alarm go off ...went out without my coat like I normally do ...when I hear them ..
There was a hawk out there in the tree checking them out ...
I ran toward it doing my Crazy Chicken lady ROAR and off it flew ..
Do you trim their feathers away from their eyes ? so they can see predators ? that is my one concern with Silkies
