Had a good productive day today. Fed the birds, moved two juveniles into a coop, moved other juveniles into the bigger brooder, and put hay down in the AC run to cover up all the mud and muck that's being caused by all this melting snow.
My nine year old cousin was at the house helping his grandmother and grandfather clean it out and fix it up (we will be renting it to his aunt) and he was intrigued with the chickens. He came down to help with them as soon as he saw me out there and was really delighted with being able to pet them and had lots of good questions. I explained to him that roosters don't lay eggs when he asked about that, and he asked me if the eggs we collected were for eating or had baby chicks in them and I told him you could eat them but if I incubated them a chick would grow and that seemed to fascinate him. He was in love with one of the juvenile AC cockerels that we moved and got to pick him up and hold him and had me take pictures and then when the cockerel sat on his shoulder we got another picture.
By the end he was asking if he could have his own chicken (they live in town, so no) and saying that he and his grandma should just give their house to their aunt and move in to our house. So that was fun.
