NY chicken lover!!!!

Your chickens sound very nice! I probably should have mentioned in my post that we are looking for large fowl rather than bantams, just because that is what we have already. But I do thank you for replying!

Thank you !. I assumed for a child you would want Bantams, my bad !! I have LF, Silver Laced Wyandottes and black Australorps. both breeds are very calm and gentle. But they are large and heavy. I have had no problems with the roosters either..

Hey all, i just picked up a nice mix of 18 to 20 week old hens, the package came with some roos the same age. If anyonr needs or would like a free rooster lemme know, im near sidney, thx

I'm thinking about doing a little hatching in the next few weeks. Anyone know where I can get some EE eggs within an hours drive from Oswego? I'd really like to have some BCM eggs to hatch, then I could make my own olive eggers next year but I will prolly have to order them to be shipped. Only looking to hatch 6-8 so a dozen eggs would be good if I get a 50% hatch rate.

Had a good productive day today. Fed the birds, moved two juveniles into a coop, moved other juveniles into the bigger brooder, and put hay down in the AC run to cover up all the mud and muck that's being caused by all this melting snow.

My nine year old cousin was at the house helping his grandmother and grandfather clean it out and fix it up (we will be renting it to his aunt) and he was intrigued with the chickens. He came down to help with them as soon as he saw me out there and was really delighted with being able to pet them and had lots of good questions. I explained to him that roosters don't lay eggs when he asked about that, and he asked me if the eggs we collected were for eating or had baby chicks in them and I told him you could eat them but if I incubated them a chick would grow and that seemed to fascinate him. He was in love with one of the juvenile AC cockerels that we moved and got to pick him up and hold him and had me take pictures and then when the cockerel sat on his shoulder we got another picture.

By the end he was asking if he could have his own chicken (they live in town, so no) and saying that he and his grandma should just give their house to their aunt and move in to our house. So that was fun.

I have some beautiful mint green layers I could cross to my BCM roo if you would like? Or just the eggs. I'm 2 hours away though so maybe meet in the middle.

you could always do like I did. Let him "have a chicken" that he can see everything he comes over. My son's friend wanted a flock after he saw ours so now he "has 6" that live with my flock. Makes the kid happy and you still know the bird is safe.

How much would you want for a dozen? Meeting In the middle would be awesome. The DW and I are usually up for a little trip and lunch could be on us. I am planning on going to chickenstock but was wanting to hatch before then. I have a mutt/americauna rooster. I was thinking I'd get some fairly light eggs if I crossed him with my RIR or my other EEs. I have one hen that lays a olive green egg. I've got to figure out which one it is though.
