NY chicken lover!!!!

So, I'm about to try my first hatch ever. My long term goal is to hatch lavender orps, but I'm doing a trial with my own eggs first. I don't really NEED any more chickens at the moment, so I would like to give some away (providing it's sucessful). Do you or someone you know, in/around Fulton County, that would like some babies around March 1st? Of course I'll keep any that don't find a home, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Dad is a Wyandotte/Australorp mix. Mommas could be buff orpingtons, australorps, ameraucana, or buff laced Polish.

Side note: if you, or someone you know is selling fertile lavender orp eggs, please let me know! I have a options, including a hatchery and someone far western NY.. but I'd prefer to pick up rather than have them shipped. I'd be willing to drive 1-2 hours from home, so any options are welcome.

Do you have a bigger shot of them. See I look for spacing between the prints. Right now I'm seeing big prints in the drive but I know they're most likely "Riddicks" he's a big Boxer mix. His prints are clear and I can tell he's a heavy dog. I've not seen him go after the chickens, though he's had the chance. Neighbors dog, I don't bother complaining.

Sorry no Rancher. Those were the only pix Tim took. How are you and your DW doing?

Thank you for asking.

We are doing as best we can. I'm working nearly 30 hrs. Mostly evenings. Our DD's come to stay with DW most of the time. She was doing good yesterday but today didn't feel well. She did manage to go to the bookstore for awhile. She hasn't been out except for doctor visits. She sees the Oncologist and will have a test to see how the radiation did and to decide what method of Chemo she is to have next.

Our DD is getting married in July so I'm working for that and to keep on top of things.

On your front. I did not know we had mountain lions here anymore. Are they moving back into the area? I'm always happy when I see rabbits in the yard, cuz I figure the Fox and Coyotes are moving on. I'm still "marking" just in case though.

Anyone have one of these? I sold my incu but now regret it. Saw these on Ebay. a 96 egg unit is about half what I paid for my Genesis 1588.

@rancher hicks
Saw someone asking about that one awhile ago being sold through Wal-Mart online. Couldn't find reviews at first but did on Amazon. Most didn't have much good to say about it. Check it out on Amazon.
Saw it on Ebay, which is usually less than Amazon. I wonder how it holds a temp without the insulation factor of Styrofoam. The price of the Gensis 1588 with turner has not gone up since my last one without the digital temp readouts.

6 Birchen chicks are $175 where as eggs are $75. Of course I'd be hatching my own after that. I can't believe no one has them. I know Marq had them and wonder what happened to her flock of them. Someone must have them I would think.

If you want the white Marans I'm getting, I can bring them to chickenstock if your going. I want white bresse so I'm not interested in keeping them. But if your looking for really dark eggs, I don't think they lay as dark as the other varieties.

I've had reasonably dark eggs from my Marans but I'm fairly sure they were crossed into the Coppers. The marans club on facebook has some very nice dark eggs. But what will happen to the other varieties of Marans if we don't work with them?

I'm now considering just keeping Marans. I had a nice sized Cuckoo rooster but like a fool sold him. Though my Dels are still the best layers so I have to keep them if I want eggs.

I think different varieties of chickens have different needs. My marans aren't laying and that frustrates me. I don't think they're happy. They have not laid in quite some time. At least not regularly.
