My 14 year old kitty isn't feeling well this weekend. His appointment at Christmas time upped the meds for his hyperthyroidism from 5mg pills twice a day to 10mg pill once a day and half a pill the other end of day. This week he seems to be eating less and less, looking rough. Hoping the vet is open Monday. Not sure if it is the disease taking over or the pills hurting his throat. Very obvious he doesn't feel good.

My 17 year old cat has the same thing, and she's on the same dose. She had symptoms just like your boy and it turns out the thyroid disease was causing her to get dehydrated. So now I give her 100 ccs of fluid a week and she's feeling much better. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's something just as simple for your boy and he makes a full and quick recovery :fl

Thanks Pyxis.
Hoping to get him into the vet tomorrow. Anything I can do for him today? When he gets his pill, we've been giving him canned food as a treat and for extra calories. But he hasn't been eating as much. Tried tuna fish this morning. We have an evil cat too so can't leave it out.

I usually crush her pill up and mix it into her wet food. I heat the food first because it makes it more fragrant and more appetizing for them. Mine gets wet food every day because she's also had most of her teeth pulled and can't handle dry food very well.

Will he drink milk? Milk is actually very calorically dense for cats and as a bonus if he is dehydrated it might help get some liquid into him at the same time.

You can test for dehydration by grabbing his skin somewhere (the shoulder blades work well because there's lots of loose skin there) and pulling it up. If it snaps back almost instantly he's well hydrated. If it takes longer to slide back into place, he's dehydrated.

Not sure who you mean, but no I don't have anything at this time. Anxiously awaiting spring and broody time. Though I am tired working and DW and that sort of thing.

I do have OE rooster though. I figure his father has another year or so in him.

Spring can be tough as the warm and damp weather lends itself to disease. Dampness can be a killer. Worse than the cold. I'll be cleaning like a fool to keep things dry as soon as weather allows.

I am sorry for you trouble. It's such things that have deterred me from taking in another cat. I still feel bad after the loss of Merlin, Stubby and Puff a few years ago.

ok !! I worded that wrong !!! Is the honey still good to eat when this happens, just curious

it looks ok, but with a mouse living and pooping in the hive I don't think I would care to try it. On a positive thought, I will use some of the uncapped comb to help home the bees I get this year - helps to make them feel at home.
I will go back to my top bar hives this year, I have modified them so fingers crossed....
