NY chicken lover!!!!

My husband says I am the only one who has talking chickens ..
Anyone else ?
I have this one young rooster who is still feeling his way in the pecking order ..
He has pecked me a few times - his name is Pecker ..
He was roosting with his brothers and sisters ..
I was petting his sister ..He looked at me " I want to peck ya "
I looked at him back " and said Dont you Dare Raising my voice
and pointing my finger at him ..He backed down Basically saying' Okay I wont '
To me they talk when they do certain things
..and I understand some of the calls they do

Merry Christmas everyone!

Amish neighbors have problem dogs again. Luckily we were still home and I seen a chicken running across the snow, when they don’t leave the barn in snow. At least 4 chickens have had feathers ripped out, one being my daughter’s 4-H show chicken. Several chickens took off, but returned to roost tonight. Hubby chased the two dogs out of my barn. Lost at least 2 chickens in the past couple weeks, find nothing but piles of feathers. Dog warden being called tomorrow.

Howdy from Texas, New York chicken lovers! My daughter and her husband who live in West Point, NY, are expecting their third boy this April. I am going to try to rent a home near there, possibly in Cornwall. My chickens are coming too! Apparently, folks in Cornwall are allowed to have chickens as long as neighbors don't complain?

Anyway, I found a possible rental with no fence. It also looks fairly rural, with trees and lots of room between houses. So I am thinking there are raccoons, foxes, and whatever other predators are around there.

How do y'all who live in that area protect your chickens? Do you think a fence kit like the one in this link suffice? https://www.critterfence.com/chicken-fence-kits

Any suggestions or comments will be very appreciated.

Thank you!

WELCOME !
Yes we have those ..and hawks, eagles , wild dogs / coyotes , ( Opossums (<-Ive never had them bother my chickens ) Some areas have Mink or Weasels ..My strategy is to have the coop close to the house and secure from Predators and dont let them out unless someone is home to help them if there is trouble . And I have at least 2 Roosters to watch for trouble and warn the girls . Mine Free range 1/2 of the day without any fences . I listen for their warning Calls ..I have personally chased away Foxes and Hawks . I have lost only 1 chicken to a predator in 6 years . We had more trouble with foxes at first ..If I hear them hunting at night I go out and yell at them to keep away from my area ...I havent had to do that in a long time ..A couple of times it was chasing my cat to our house at night
