NY chicken lover!!!!

PT and AI are absolutely deadly and more serious but there are tests for it. Mareks can only be detected via death and necropsy of the bird so that can’t really be monitored. It’s a hit or miss.
Yes I understand that and agree that zoonotic diseases must take priority, but I think a better job could be done about some of the other diseases that affect the welfare and health of the birds.
It seems to me that the 'poultry improvement program' is not actually improving the poultry but maintaining a status quo which is less than desirable.

You also have to remember that is a free program and to test for PT they poke them and get some blood to do the sample right there. The AI is a simple swab. Other diseases require blood samples that need to have lab work done and then your getting into a more costly process. Plus some of the other diseases you mentioned and not nearly as devastating and have a cure, even tho they are carriers, while the ones they test for have no cure and are a guaranteed death sentence. When they offer free services, it’s a small step in the right direction that more people will partake in. If I have to pay lab work on 75 plus chickens, I would not even try to participate. NPIP isn’t a miracle, but it does help in some ways.

I'm still waiting for them to reply about an appointment. I am not shipping anything until later in the year. I was just wondering because I hadn't ever heard anything.

I didnt see any way to test for AI. When they come for NPIP can I have that done as well.

I think I mention NY is a state you are not supposed to ship to unless you have NPIP and AI.

Is there a simple chart somewhere showing what you need to ship to each state?

Working on chocolate silkies and satins and bantam white polish.

AI you need to request when you set your appointment. The NPIP website has a list of what every state requires and the state vets phone number Incase you have questions.
