NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm totally addicted! Got my new brooder built (well, the man did it while I was shopping), and can NOT wait for the new chicks. I'm expecting them this week, and couldn't be more excited!

Hello, Everybody!!
Joanne, you're right.......chick season will soon be upon us(smile)!!! I've had to restrain myself from buying too many eggs........which is really hard to do when there's so many breeds to choose from!!!! I've been perusing all the egg-selling sites(which can be dangerous). So I've had to sit down and make a "chicken wish list".......the breeds I'd really love to get in the next year or 2. Somehow that list always gets bigger. I have 10+ Delawares coming in the mail today.......will get 2 more dozen eggs or so to fill the incubator somewhat. I've asked a friend in PA about some Mille Fleur Cochin eggs(banty)......they're beautiful!! I'm also looking at some Blue Wyandottes and some GL Wyandottes.......and maybe some turkens (something really different).
Has anybody hatched anything lately??! Or does anybody have chicks coming in soon??! I'd love to see some pics if so!!! It'll help remind me that before you know it, SPRING will be here.......not soon enough for me!!!!
Take care ....and stay warm!!!
Sincerely, Kathy

Hi, ChicksNPigs!!!!
Awesome!!! How many did you order....and what breed/breeds???! I became addicted to chickens the moment my first chick hatched on June 3rd,2009!!! It was a tiny Mille Fleur D'Uccle.....the first of 4 to hatch that morning. All are still here....and spoiled rotten (smile). I was already addicted to ducks.....

Hey, Joanne!!!
You must be totally excited!!! Marans and Silkies.......fantastic!!!! Get your camera ready(smile)!!! As long as they're all viable embryos thus far hopefully it should go very well for you (my fingers are crossed anyway). Just carefully watch the temp and humidity.....and stop turning the eggs 3 days prior to the hatch date. I'm definitely not an expert....but that advice has worked well for me. I'm going to get a hygrometer/thermometer this season....they say it greatly increases hatch rates!!!
Please let us know when the little darlins' start to pip!! The hardest part is refraining from "rushing" the hatch by "helping" them hatch out. From my experiences, it usually goes very well. I DO occasionally help a duckling or a chick out of the shell if it appears to be in trouble......but only as a last resort. We'll be waiting for those pics(smile)!!!!!!
Regards & Happy Hatching,
Kathy
