YAY for the power going back on!!! I'm sorry about yoru babies!

We're supposed to get a little more snow tonight, but not a big accumulation.

I've had a super productive morning. The housework from hell morning, but at least the majority of it is done for the day (dusting, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming, etc).

I hear ya I am working like a nut cleaning... well tea break right now.. I really need to grocery shop & am dreading all the other people
finally getting out it will be crazy... I have some of my own eggs ready now for the bator...
so I think tomorrow I will start it up again

I am sure you're in for it in the stores. Heard it's finally clearing. We only got one really bad day of weather (Thursday) my commute was 3 times longer than usual (and up here that's saying a LOT since each town is atlease 1/2 hour away!) I'm doing chicken chores in snow mixed with mud... YAY! Mud season has begun.

OK, I didn't read all 38 pages, just about the first 15. I think I may be the furthest north and still in USA! Do I get a prize?

I'm in Moira, NY north of everything!! North of Potsdam!! LovinMyPeeps and Deanner03 are the closest to me that I can see.

I wish I could get situated with some Ameraucana's right now, but I won't be ready for a while. Also Ben, you've got Sonew123 over near Saranac... I need another coop... like yesterday

Hey Everybody.........I Survived!!!!!!
We lost power here for 3+ days........definitely NOT fun with over 200 birds to care for. But somehow you get by. Jen and my other NY Chicken-Lover friends, I'm glad I was in your thoughts(smile). Has anyone heard from Amy??!!
Jen, sorry your other eggs didn't hatch!!!! But you have more to set.....excellent!!! Wishing you the very best of luck!!! I'm so glad you've had your power restored..........I'll never take things(like electricity) for granted again!!!!! I spent the last 3+ days keeping my chicks alive.........and keeping the eggs in the bator viable. Difficult......but definitely do-able..........defeat was NOT an option. Let me tell you about my escapades in the dark(definityely NOT x-rated......smile).
I kept the chicks in the Hovabator incubator........kept it vented with a pencil holding one corner up. The styrofoam helped hold their own body heat......they were very comfortable. For the eggs in ther incubator, I kept boiling water on the stove and filling 2 big mugs. I covered the tops of the mugs with tin foil to prevent excess humidity.........it worked very well. I kept refilling the mugs to keep the eggs at at least 95 degrees. Needless to say, I didn't get too much sleep........but I kept all my babies alive. How doesw the saying go........"Necessity is the mother of invention".........
I truly hope everyone weathered the storm OK..........MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS WERE WITH EVERYONE!!!!! Must go for now.....have to check my other mail. Speak to you later!!!!!
Warmest Regards,
Kathy

I'm here too, finally! We lost power Thurs. and just got it back today, Sun. We had to leave the house yesterday, because it got too cold for the kids at night. We almost lost our newly hatched chick the other night. We had no more hatch of the eggs in the incubator. The chick is doing well,as are our 2 silkie chicks. The chick hatched with very curled feet, it still has problems getting around. I'm hoping it does well. Glad everyone made out ok, boy we sure did get a lot of snow!!

Hi, I'm back. Lost power for 3+ days. Fortunately we have a generator. Unfortunately it was lent out after Tuesday's storm, and we didn't get it back until 6am Friday morning.
My incubator was off for 6 hours. Saturday night was lockdown. Tuesday is Day 21. We'll see what happens.
But its March and Spring officially starts in 19 days!
Its going to take me awhile to read through all the posts. Congrats to all the new chicks.
Joanne

Joanne, mine was off for about 5 hours when we had the first storm and we had one chick hatch, so you might get some to hatch! Hope you do:) They are saying another storm for maybe Wed or Thurs. I really hope not!!!

I have 14 eggs in my incubator that are due to hatch today and tomorrow. I dont expect a great hatch, I have been having some trouble with temp for the past few days but we will see what happens.
