NY chicken lover!!!!

Anybody got suggestions for another breed to breed. Not to many takers for Dels and I thought perhaps another breed. Something colorful. Now I have the Lavs but they aren't yet breeding. I got to get a set up for them. Still I'd like to get a breed "dual" but nice. No RIR's i wonder about NR's. Think folks would want those, but they've have to be heavy, cuz i'd get stuck with the roos.

Anyone here use Cod liver oil for their birds.

Thanks Rancher

I have two BO hens from Ideal and I do like the blues and lavs. But I have the Lav amers. I think I'd like to get a nice friendly back yard bird. Some breeds are not friendly but good purpose birds eggs and all that. My dels are friendly but not the pretty birds folks like.

In starting my new flock I went totally different than my last types. I am going large as well as good egg layers, easy going personality and good looks. Sooooo....eggs on their way to me now are....RIR....coronation sussex....light Brahma....Welsummers....bbs marans......BLRW......Barnvelders......and for yard eye candy I am getting more of my favorite little bantams like silkies and cochins. I cannot wait for fresh eggs again.

No, we didn't, but some pretty wheatens, and some that look black...we may have some confusion, though. We have some EEs and they all went in the same bator. I marked the eggs, but didn't see all of them hatch. So I don't know what belongs to who

Anyone else using the big thaw we're supposed to be getting to...clean the coops?

yep I'm cleaning Saturday

Yes! Cleaning inside tomorrow (brooders) and going to town outside over the weekend. Premature spring cleaning.

Hey Deanner, I have a Blue Copper Roo in with a Blue Copper and Black Copper Hen. He also has a beautiful Welsummer hen with him. They have just started laying...I've gotten 6 eggs so far this week. If you want some BCM's with a chance of a mixed Chocolate Egger I can hook you up.

Ok what about the rest of us? Who's got what and for what? I do trade. Only thing pure is my Dels. For those who don't know, my dels are not hatchery. At least the eggs I hatched this last time. The hatchery girls eggs are so different I can tell in a shot. Plus they are going or would be except that one lays a pink egg and I don't know which one she is.

I got a friz hen too and she's nicely behaved. I just hatched out some of hers crossed with a del roo. They are dark chicks. to early to tell if they will friz or not. The CM's I got don't lay very dark eggs. Two are from hatchery. Others from Amsterdam, NY. i was thinking of contacting him and getting more but they were ten a chick. to much for me to pay now. I sold the roo like a fool and he was a big guy. guess i could get another roo for the girls and hatch some more chicks.

I'd LOVE to but can't bring live birds across the border.
I would most DEFINITELY be interested in some eggs come spring, though.

Just....

don't anyone tell the hubby!

Where are you in NY (if you don't mind me asking...and you can answer via pm if you want to)...pickup MIGHT be available.

I'm in Vernon, between Utica & Syracuse. We went up to 1000 Islands camping and it took about 2.5 hours to drive.

The only birds I have laying on a regular basis are my sexlinks and one BO hen, which are with 2BO roos and a straight comb BLRW roo. The past few days I have gotten 2 eggs from a BCM hen and 1 from an ameraucauna hen, they're in with 3 Ameraucauna roos and a SLW roo. I have buff brahma bantams in their own pen but they haven't given me an egg in a couple months. I have BLRW in separate pen but they haven't started laing yet. In the next couple months I hope to have a few more pens built to separate better for breeding. DH and I have a few breeding experiments we would like to try.
