NY chicken lover!!!!

I'd offer virtual hugs, but it's too hot for those (even my cyberself is hot), so I'll offer the virtual cold drink of your choice instead. Putting a kitty down would be enough to set me off, never mind everything else that's hitting you. I hope things get better for you soon!

another broody Sumatra has 6 little fuzzy butts following her around today. That is 25 chicks from my Broody Sumatra's this year so far. Another broody is due any day now! Love my Sumatra's!

Last week when it was hot the cat was "off" and I thought it odd, since it didn't look like heatstroke to me, or urinary blockage. I tell my husband something is wrong with the cat, he doesn't see it... Ya know if I hadn't been here for a week I prob would have come home and he'd be like gee, the cat died! So it doesn't look better the next day, and I haul it off to the vet, and the blood test came back FIV positive. Vet said his lungs were full of fluid and he'd lost two pounds since when he was in last. Kitty looked fine the week before, slept alot but I figured he's a cat, its what cats do. So yeah, he was fine, then down, then came home in a box.

My wonderful tactful husband complained about the $180 vet bill and how their cats growing up always just "drug themselves away" Its a small miracle I didn't beat him to death, gee, I am sorry to inconvenience you. Was I supposed to watch him slowly sufficate to death or worse, shoot my own cat?

He built me a enclosure for the Jr birds (yeah, its way pathetic) so I stuck the broody hen with the gazillion chicks in there, yesterday she figured out how to fly out (because of course, he put no roof on the pen... ) As far as I can tell she didn't leave any chicks anyplace today. Another Runner duck is loose too.

Thanks for the well wishes! We really didn't plan for me to be pregnant, I'm 41 and my son is gonna be 17, so it's been kinda hard to adjust to it. Plus we have like zip for kid stuff! Its just bills on top of bills and then oh look, more bills! Yay! I'm supposed to go on a job interview and I'm debating, do I say I'm pregnant? Sigh.

Oddly enough the critters have had NO issues with the heat, the one hen that seemed to heat stress the most the fox ate. I did loose a bunny today, it bloated, it impacted and stopped pooping/eating/drinking. I finally got it to start pooing last night, but I think it was too far gone, it was seizing when I got up to pee this am, so I shot it.

I would have run it to the vet to have them show me how to do an enima but there was no way we could pay another 150 vet bill. Sigh. Who knew when I started raising livestock all these years ago I was gonna have to know how to do all my own vetting?

I'm actually pretty good at it, so it always bothers me when I can't save something.

I have some Black SF available Muggsmagee, I only have one litter of blues that are probably going to convention if they're decent and bucks, and staying here if they're decent and does, lol Most of my stuff does carry blue, or if you are close enough to me you could always run something over to breed it, I have three blue bucks and a bunch of black bucks that carry blue. Shoot me an email if you're interested.

I have Rex available too, or at least til it cools down (when oh when is THAT going to happen?)

I think the critters are fairing better in the heat then I am, I can't get a thing done out there! <insert heat drenched smiley!>

Well, one more less raccoon!

I have a couple of young chicks that are just starting to roost and a few seem to have trouble finding their way, so the last couple of days I have helped them up when I closed up the coop. Last night I went to close the coop an I had four of them line up behind me for a "helping hand" to get to the roost. I hope this isn't going to be a habit!

Well lesse.. went out this morning and got two more fans, one for my back coop and one to aim at a nestbox they all seem to prefer. For some reason the big fat chickens insist on trying to lay eggs at about 4PM in the afternoon. Wish em luck

. Electrolytes in the water.. WallyMart was out of watermelon so had to get cantaloupes. Can we give the heat back now?

I much preferred bragging about how well my girls did in the cold. LOL.

Gave the girls some cantalope this morning and have more in the freezer for later. Just finished hosing down the runs and the cheeps. Even my most hardy girls are panting. I hate that I have to go to work and leave them. We are roasting here in the hudson valley. My broody still insists on sitting. I hope she is okay.

Mumbles got too big for his britches last night and went after Gladys. She nailed him to the ground and held him by his hackles. Didnt hurt him but let him know that she wasnt putting up with his silky rooster crap. (She is a rather large goldenlaced wyanndotte.) Guess he is a slow learner as she cleaned his clock the last time too. His backup, Little Man, watched from afar. Personally I think he is just setting up Mumbles so he can take over his place! Boys. The girls just go about their business and dont make trouble.

Candled the eggs last night and see life in at least 2. The blue one has a dark mass in it. Not sure if its a dud or develping quicker. All were gathered at the same time(according to the donor). Guess I will look again tonight and see whats going on.

Stay cool all. Im off to the oven to work. Hey--the gummi vitamins in the vitamin aisle melted yesterday. Wonder what today will bring?
