...I have heard of this place but never been..How did you go? Rt 20 or the Thurway?..Either way you were near us...
Enjoy!

My GPS told me I-90 so that's the way I went-more miles but driving faster and no red lights. This morning I woke to 4 baby Cornish chicks from Ladylibra's flock. They are peeping and drying off now, into the brooder later. Went out and checked on the ducks, look good. I left them locked inside their coop for the night and still have them locked in. Foor is in there but water will be outside. I will let them out when I can stay out and make sure they are good with the pool.

Henicillin--some days the pay isnt worth the abuse! I am an understudy. Yesterdays freak...how come my script isnt ready? The doctor called it in. Me...we need your information. Freak...why? Me...because you never filled here before. Freak...why didnt you just use the script for my info? Me...it only has your name on it. Freak...they why didnt you get it from my insurance? Me...because I dont have your insurance info and you have never filled here before. Freak...my other pharm has never given me such a hard time. Me...standing quietly looking at him while waiting for him to finish filling out info. I love my job!!!!

I dont know about the rest of you but this cool weather seems to be making my girls a little more needy and demanding! They have been raising a ruckus every morning for the past few mornings to get out into their pen. Even my silkies have been piling out right quick. Spoiled divas have been begging for scratch and cracked corn as well. My oldest daughter saw some polish chickens at someones house and is smitten. She wants me to get some. I told her she has room at her house and she can get them. She calls them rasta chickens and says they look like the alien creature Predator. I told her to build a coop and get some. I have no room!

What kind of incubator do you all use? Next spring I would like to try hatching my own using eggs from someone within driving distance. I'm looking for something with an automatic turner because I'm not home during the day to turn them myself (and have senior moments).

Haven't been on much because every free daylight hour is spent working on building the run. The two marans girls I got from Annie at the poultry picnic are doing great. I would like to try more marans because I like their personalities and body type; don't care how dark the eggs are, they taste delicious and are good sized.

I use a brinsea advanced EX (with turner and pump). It's plug and play. Just put eggs in and set temp/humidity. Had one bad hatch lately, but may have been something odd I did, but generally it's awesome. Take dividers out on day 18, take whole thing off turner and bump up humidity on the panel. It's pricey, but I bought mine used on ebay.

You are also welcome to eggs from me, but all the eggs I would have are mutt eggs.

Pretty mutts, tho! LOL.

I also use Brinsea - we have 2 Eco 20's. They are truly set it and forget it bators. I am well, lazy. I have had numerous hatches this year (10?) I put the eggs in, fill the water troughs and don't touch it again until I take the eggs out of the racks and shut off the turner. Once this summer I forgot what day I put the eggs in and came home after a weekend away to a bator full of chicks, still turning.

Just hatched Ladylibras Cornish - started with 5, 1 was a dud and now have 4 fluffy chicks peeping. After having the bator off for over 24 hours during Irene.

I have brinsea eco 20s- 2 of them with turner. they are all off now

so sad. last 2 batches of shipped eggs did poorly. too cold now to continue hatching.

love it cause i dont have to add water or think about the temps going up and down. it works great. hatched LF, bantams, and quail in there.

I shared this on the what you got swap thread but wanted to share it here too. will upload photos at some point when I am quite recovered.

What a day.... couldn't sleep too good last night.... think fell asleep sometime after 1-2 am up at 5:15 am (still dark out and 30-40 ish degrees BRRR)

go out and pack 17 of my daughters japs in varying size carriers. finally leave the driveway about 5:55am... some how make very good time in traveling to the Poultry show... get there about 8:30am. chicken laid an egg in the carrier.... i'm like
ep.gif
ok that's a surprise. get them all unpacked in there places by 9am...

Judging starts My daughter patiently waits for hers to be judged. after 11-12 most of them are judged -

we go down the row of japs we go wow they did pretty good.... continue down the row... I m like your missing one... its her BTB roo she's like because its up on champion row... we are like
yippiechickie.gif
he won best SCCL
yippiechickie.gif
take his picture up there.... go back to our row.... the Black mottled cockerel was reserve breed. im like nice. but the 2 mottled pullets must not have placed. they had no award placements.

judge gets to the end of the chickens and was like I think I missed something.... he missed the 2 mottled pullets that we had up there. he was like this could change everything.

and it did one of my daughters pullets demoted the btb roo from best of breed and champion sccl. and the btb roo was now the reserve breed.

oh then another hen laid an egg. .... makes 2 eggs.

so Michaella did very well today. I am very proud of her and her chickens.

awards today 11 first places, 4 second places, 2 third places- all birds placed. along with many bov and reserve of varieties.

and then she won best showmanship- novice class It was her first time in showmanship.

and we won in the raffle- 2 large pumpkins, one large mum plant, 4 rooster place mats with "gallo" on it (had to try to win those cause thats our last name), a tea cup and saucer, a stuffed chicken (its nice i'm going to try to recreate it and sell them at a craft fair) and a carrier for $5 in the silent auction.

got home at 6pm... 2 more hens laid eggs.... total of 4 jap eggs.... all them chickens back in there pens happy ... unpacked the car... tired but happy.

my daughters taking a nap, i have to make something for supper, and planning the next show LOL.

and the bators are all shut off so now going to put up an auction for jap eggs if someone might want some LOL.

Is everyone ready for winter yet? Lord I hope it's not to hard of one.

I was up this am at 3 and turned the heat on. I was so cold my fingers hurt. I do like to read so I was reading James and Giant Peach. I do read other things but sometimes like to read books I didn't have when I was a kid. Besides who remembers what RIF means?

Looks like I may be getting the bbs silky roo and some hens back. Now if I do and they hatch some expect me to be giving away the chicks. I am not all that into them. 'sides DW likes them. I may use the hens to hatch orp eggs too.

Take care,

Rancher

oh yea went to take care of the big girls after got the bantams taken care of and it was like an easter egg hunt.

3 ee eggs on the floor.... 2 EE eggs on the floor in between some cages (karen the blue orp started laying) she lays on top of a cage I have bantam cochins in.
and 2 large brown eggs and 1 white hamburg egg in the nest where they are supposed to lay.

all the big girls and (half pint girls) all think they are starving and dying of thirst. feed them got the water to fill it up... headed toward the door and the blue half pint wyondotte flys and lands on my shoulder... I'm like really????????

had to stop what I'm doing grab her put her back in the pen while hoping the other 15+ don't run out the door.

get the water filled up and in place scooting 15+ hens and 2 roos out of the way and try not to let them escape.

they are so spoiled .... crazy chickens think they are dying if they don't see me for 8 hrs. really....

gotta love them though
