Ha ha ha I think they might not be so keen on the idea, especially since they are only letting us have our cat and weenie dog.. lol

I hatch in the fall so if you are interested in Marans, Orpingtons, Blr Wyandottes or Coronation/split sussex, I might have some chicks, don't know yet because I'm going to Crossroads and will be taking chicks to sell there...
No silkies chicks yet, just starting out with them....but love them!

A while back, I posted pics of my brooder & how it is in the winter. I hatch from October to June. I only use a regular light bulb for heat for the youngest chicks.

Here is a pic of my 3 tier brooder

I use a canvas tarp to wrap aroung the shelf unit & keep closed with plastic large clamps. They stay nice & warm out in my unheated barn. I use 2 lamps in each area in case one bulb goes out, the other one keeps the chicks warm.
I put the waterer near the lights so it doesn't freeze.
I have also used a large bin or water trough, with a piece of wood or dowl, holding up the light without anything else around it. They do fine as long as they can get under the light when they need to warm up.

marquisella - I think I can make one similar to it. Put it in my chick barn. Maybe I will consider winter chicks....

I just sold 9 hens and had just wormed them. I use bands to tell who got wormed since I have all Dels in one coop. Probably have to do that with the BR's too. Rancher: Oh no you don't! I can't imagine you going to AL without your birds. You have so much time invested in them. Besides, we would miss you on this forum. Who would make me laugh?? Who else besides me would think it is cool to have a raspberry hedge double as a fence? Hope that helps you stay or at least have a place there for your chickens to play.

Raspberries as a hedge? Really cool idea!! I didn't think that I had room for raspberries, now I will have to consider this idea!!
