NY chicken lover!!!!

I usually put a 100 Watt light bulb in a clay flower pot and put my water on top of the pot works great untill the temp drops way below zero for an extended period of time

As for winter water? I keep a nipple feeder in the coop for insurance and switch it out in the morning filling it with hot water. Only a few times does the nipple freeze. I also put hot water in the other waterers in the run. I fill milk jugs with water and tote it out in my little red wagon.

If they have never drank out of a nipple feeder do they problems adapting?

Another question on nipple waterers...I have a mixed flock. I have few small chickens and buckeyes. When I hung the waterer for the bigger birds, it was to high for the small birds. When I hung it for small birds, it was to short for the LF. When I left a bowl out, NOBoDY would use the nipple waterer! Suggestions?

I guess my guys are getting the job done.

Of course they are all mutts, cuz their daddy is an OE....but mutt eggs taste good too.

You may have to show them a few times and remove other waterers but they catch on as the nipples are a nice attractive RED.

Vm - you can always hang two. I use juice pitchers bought at family dollar. They hold enough for a day or so. I use them for my chicks with one nipple.

Cass - congratulations.
