NY chicken lover!!!!

I got 2 eggs today, for the first time in a LONG time. Seems not having roosters chasing them around agrees with the girls.

I took the last 2 eggs from the broody silkie. One was dead. One was alive, but it died cuz I opened the shell.

DAYUM, why do I try and mess with Mother Nature's system? She was still sitting on them but they were over a week late in hatching. Seems a week isn't *that* late when it is this cold outside. IF I hadn't killed the one in the egg, I would have had a 75% hatch rate. That's pretty darn good for a broody. I think the secret is not allowing them to sit on too many eggs. A friend of a friend let her Leghorn sit on 20 eggs but only got 7 to hatch. Seems like a waste of eggs to me.

I have sold alot of cockerals there over the last year. For me once I know that it is something I don't want to keep I get rid of it. Feed is way too expensive to use on birds I don't want to keep. Don't get much for them but I only live about 40 min from them, and I try to take as many as possible at once.

Rancher: I remember the the morning song from the record "The music machine." Loved that record as a kid. Nathanial the grublet was fun too. Hope your birds arrive safely.

Water was freezing up tonight. *sigh*

Have a good and safe night everyone.

My DD's school did that play one year. I heard the song on WMHR. One of my favorite stations. I listened to Adventures In Odessy while waiting for DW to get out of work.

I prefer to just give them away. No sense wasting money to drive for $1 a bird.

This summer we had so many extra roos (too young to eat) we made more than what it cost in gas to bring them to kings. But DH loaded my Ion to the roof and drove that because it's better on gas than his Ford 250. We also live closer than you. If we lived in syracuse I wouldn't drive to kings either.

Best of luck with the chicks, Odey and Rancher. Had to break some ice today in a couple of buckets. Gonna be a long winter.

At least the water for the chickens and pheasants was ice free.
