Tab's chicken obsession :

You could get a goat. On a P Allen Smith show I saw one of the people he visited in a suburban area kept 2 or 3 goats and made her own cheese. It would give you your own supply of raw milk.

The logistics and expense of starting with a goat here are quite beyond my reach at the moment, though I appreciate the input and it'd be a great idea someday!

I'll see if DH can get the shop's number from the parts guy so we can call them, as I would indeed want to know. I seriously doubt Parts Guy would deliver her back - the shop DH works for is in the middle of a long, circuitous route, and he basically said no way in Hades would he drive back for a chicken. I would, though, because I'm a Chicken Peep.

She seems to enjoy the chow at my place - she doesn't hesitate to dive right in!

I would be worried sick (as most of us would be) at the disappearance of a chicken. Good luck finding the number for the farm. OK, I can hear you leaving a message on their answering machine. "Hi, this is Amy. I live east of Albany and I have one of your chickens" Can you imagine coming home THAT message? At least she has found a great home........

Now that is funny....

You could find it scratched into the wall of your nestboxes. "Mom, I'm sorry - I know I'm just a young pullet, but I really, really want to hatch his eggs! I'll even go broody - you'll see!"

Maybe she wrote a letter to their rooster. "Dear John: I'm writing this to tell you that I've run off with Tom, the Bourbon Red turkey from the farm up the road. I'm sorry, but even your sickle feathers and hackles can't compete with that tail."

I'm tempted to write a short kid's book for my 4-year-old nephew. He has "Tillie Lays an Egg," and LOVES it - he'd probably get a kick out of Trucker Chick.

When I first decided to get chickens and do some research, I took out every book that had to do with poultry and chickens. Some even twice. That included childrens books and juvie's. My favorite in this line was, "Love Ruby Lavender" . Absolutely a great book to read but more so to listen to on Audio. The narrator is soooo good.

I did order it for my DD but on cassettes, I should order it on CD's.

Don't forget "Minerva Louse" She's another great chicken book. I bought that for my DW. ( I buy each a childrens book for Christmas).

We should never be to old to enjoy a kids book now and then.

Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional,

Now Heni, don't let that discourage you from writing your book. There can never be to many chicken books. Plus you could put your nephew in the story. I recently bought a book called "Henry and Mudge" for my grandson Henry. His first book. He's not yet a year old.

I'll be looking forward to it,

Rancher
