Kefir is fantastic. I make 'yogurt/sour cream' with it and also soft cheese. I never buy cream cheese, yogurt or sour cream anymore. I substitute it into my cooking and it's much healthier too!
If anyone around here needs starter grains for water or milk kefir, let me know. The water kefir isn't as healthy as it needs sugar to grow on, but it does make for fantastic home made sparkling grape juice.

i have heard of water kefir but never made it. If I had enough honey, I would love to try mead.....maybe someday......

I make a red velvet cake with the kefir. It is the absolute best!!!!!!(not very red however because I use beets and no red dye)

THIS IS NEW TO ME. HOW DO YOU MAKE KEFIR AND OTHER STUFF. Thanks Aria

expensive but worth every cent. Kills everything that snacks on blood on a chicken, inside and out.

My understanding is 1cc for Large Fowl and .5 cc for bantams or juvies. Use a needleless syringe to apply to the back of the neck, on the skin, like you do for dogs and cats and Frontline.

I did it. ALL my chickens are still alive and their poop firmed up (which was my goal....thought they had worms)

Good morning all!

Interesting post about the Ivomec. I was wondering the other day about "frontline for chickens." lol. It talks about zero slaughter or milk withdrawal, but what about egg consumption? What have you guys done as far as withdrawal for eating the eggs? 2-4 weeks?

Wow - I'm drinking my tea and just looked outside to see that it's snowing. I didn't expect that! Weather report didn't mention it. Grrr........and brr.

Everyone here says no egg withdrawal for Eprinex, so I don't toss. I don't use it very often, however. I don't sell the eggs, just in case, but I'll eat them myself.

Snowing here also!!

I would have eatten the eggs IF THEY HAD BEEN LAYING. But since they weren't laying but 2 eggs a week at the time I just ate them. (Another reason I "wormed" them...lack of production....helped production a bit, then it got to the short days, so I can't win)

Notice the package says "No slaughter or milk Withdrawl" based on that I figure the eggs are fine to eat. What's more I only do them twice a year, three at the most. I suspect you can even use less than the 1cc for LF and less for the bantams.

Now get this.

I saw an article on the TV about heart worm in dogs. Well guess what they showed being used for preventative treatment? That's right Ivomectin. So I figure if you can get it at home why not treat your own dogs once a year like the Vets do. AND your dogs will be safe to eat.
