As long as they are still laying, I should have Silver Amer. I don't know if they are show quality, I am just starting to hatch some from them, I got them from Pips & Peeps so I know they are pure. Toughest thing is getting the eggs before they freeze, depending on the weather.

If I put them in the incubator on feb 8th they should hatch on March 1st DD's birthday. I would love to try them if you have some to sell. Please let me know how things are going as we get through January. I can come and pick them up too. Thanks!

Welcome! and congrats! Love those babies..I have nine new coro/light Sussex and 50 plus eggs in the bator..crazy!
Happy New Year to all!
love the pallet coop!

I am hope to have my husband build one of the cookie tin heaters...tho I did get a brooder for Christmas and a pigeon pen...what a wonder guy!

Have a great day!

Thanks. It was my first coop and has many great memories with it. We even still have a few of the original flock 5 years later!

I love Pigeons! They are so beautiful! Do you know if they be housed with Peafowl and Pheasants?

ETA - The littlest DD may want to hatch some Ameracaunas. She loves to show at the Altamont Fair so pure but not necessarily show quality eggs would be great if anyone has some to sell the first week of February.

IF the girls start laying by then I will gladly give you some eggs from Jean's stock. Lav and possibly Lav splits tho. I only have Lav hens, but both black and lav roos. I don't know if you can show Lav's yet, cuz they aren't an accepted color, as of yet.

featherz- you won't believe me....we finally got an egg from the fav...or maybe she was just keeping it warm and it is from one of the lt brahamas...since she is back on the nest again. Doesn't matter...we got an egg!!!!!

WHOOOHOOO!!!! Go girls!!!!

It's almost time for them to start laying.....others have told me that Mid - late January is when the hens start to lay again. I hope they are not feeding me a line, cuz I miss my Bantie eggs. (never thought you'd see me say THAT did ya? LOL)

Cass - that would be great! Either color she can bring to the fair-there is a "other" color class and at Altamont they are quite relaxed about ruling usually. She really just likes to bring birds and show them and as long as they are a Standard breed it will be fine. I just showed her picks of lavender and blacks - "they are so pretty!" so as long as you have some I would love to buy some off of you! We need to put them in the bator Wednesday Feb 8, so if you have some the previous weekend (2/3 - 2/5) so I can stop by and pick them up that would be perfect.

On a happy note I got 3 THREE Chantecler eggs today! YEAH! And the BA and random hens are starting to lay again. My egg customers are so happy, sold 3 1/2 dozen today.

Go girls!! To the other thread folks, the favorelle was one I gave IHS when it looked to be a boy.. everyone on the fav thread said it was a boy because it was feathering in so dark. it's a girl!!!

So watch those hatchery favorelles - the color sexing is all messed up.

My 'mixed age' coop gave me ZERO eggs today. Grr. My leghorns kicked in the usual 3. 12 eggs from the pullet coop. Pretty 'eh' day. I hope I can keep up the eggs for my growing work customers, all of whom want BIG eggs, not even medium sized eggs.

(at the saratoga farmers market, one seller was selling pullet eggs for $3/dozen, $4.75 for regular eggs.. wow!).

I've been selling a dozen of "farm fresh variable sized eggs" (Pullet to giant Leghorn) for $2.50/doz. I guess I'm cheap.

I only have white pigeons..and Indian Fantails in white...Ours are in the grow out coop with two Nigeria Dwarf goats..they seem ok. I have had a few pigeons folks say I should be careful, but a ton others said no problem..they will have a loft in time...

Ok it is freezing out there and I went out to lock the coops and the 3 12 wk old Sussex are missing..DH would never notice this...but they are not in coop...look under and there they are...freezing in the corner..I had to crawl under and get them...silly things..of course if I hadn't they would have been Popsicle...

Try to stay warm!
and......"let it snow...let it snow"! Kids have pj's on inside out..they say it helps make a snow day?!

I get $3 a dz for mixed sized farm fresh.Eggs from 7 month pullets. RIR's, White Leghorns, barred rocks, and EE's. People tell me I'm too cheap who buy them. Today was typical. A customer came by, bought 3 dozen, and gave me a $10, said " I don't want change, your eggs are the best".

Large eggs happen when they happen, summer time for me. I get $4 a dz for them, or $3 wholesale to a guy in NYC who has a farmers market. I always have more demand than eggs to sell. Guess I need more hens
