NY chicken lover!!!!

Oh this blasted new thing. I just lost everything again.

Anyhow.

Happy - I hope you cold passes soon and thanks for thinking of me. This weather is not good. Up and down and damp and cold. Yuk. I wish my son and his had a bigger yard in AL. Not to mention I miss my grand kids.

So far so good with the temps and humidity in the incu. I''m already planning the next hatch and saving eggs. Plus I plan to buy some of tgrlily's Amer eggs too. I also mailed my deposit for Del chicks from Paul Harter.

Also I don't intend to keep all four of the Birchen Marans roos so if anyone is interested in one let me know. Free. You can put him over your Amers and get some Olive eggers I think. I will say they aren't the best as someone pm'd me about red in the feathering, but what can I do. I'll just have to be more selective as time goes by.

Mr. Crooked toes turns out is really not a SFH but a Montgomery Blue Traveler. Lord only knows what I'll do with him. Never heard of them til now.

Rancher--nice pics of the kids! Interesting coloring on those birds. I hope it warms up for you so you are not so achy.

Ginny--sorry to hear you are under the weather. I hope it goes away soon. I suffer from them as well but I have to use migraine killers to get rid of mine.

Nice to see everyones babies are hatching out successfully! I cant wait till ours come. I will hopefully be hatching silkies next month if I can find what I am looking for. As for my own little flock, I am holding off till I find other eggs and will hatch some of mine with them to check fertility.

Got 5 eggs from 8 hens yesterday! Not bad considering they are just back to laying again after 2 months off. Bunch of stalkers act like I never feed them or something. Of course, with this warm weather they want out of their pen to freerange. I feel bad because I have to work in the pm so I am not chasing 8 hens all over my yard to get them back into their run before I have to work. I did that once...it did not go well...we were all breathing hard. Not a weighloss program I want to follow...know what I mean???

The deer are eating all the buds off the big pile of branches from the downed oak tree. Now if I could just get them to stack up the rest of the wood, that would be great. You never really know how big a tree is until its on the ground. This was definately a 'holy crap!" size tree. Now we can build our woods style coop without fear of it falling.

Have a good day everyone. I'm off to get screamed at by everyone about the copays their insurances are now charging and the noncoverage of drugs that used to be covered. I love my job!!!

Amy, maybe everyone should get an adavan (sp?) before dropping off their order as part of their script!
I am feeling better thank you. I have never had one that debilitating, so I never had stronger meds than motrin.Hopefully I won't get another for a very long time. Now I have to try to get everything done today that I was supposed to get done yesterday!

I'm only quoting so I can remember what I want to respond to.

I don't do first names here, since we all chose "user names" for what ever reason but Ginny I do hope you feel better soon. DD gets them and Lord have mercy even though she's an adult I just want to hold her till it goes away. Being a parent sucks when one of your kids is in trouble and you are helpless. Anyhow, close the drapes and lay down.

The white and red bird is a Swedish Flower Hen, the other of course is Mr. Crooked toes and is not. Notice the rosecomb and pea comb.

Now I'm getting pips and peeps a day early. Two but the strongest so far from a CR egg. Of course you can never tell anything til they hatch. I've had some that seem to take forever and do nothing and then the next thing you know they're out. Temp is 99.3 for some darn reason and humidity is 63% . It's been running 99.8 or above for most of this hatch. It has done this before so I won't worry to much.

Got 7 eggs, from my Dels yesterday. So things are picking up. Now that I think of it perhaps it's because Buckwheat is back. She's my barred Frizzle hen. Chickens are funny you know. Or it could be the Dumor feed they are on now. Or it could be the day light. Or it could be the feeder in the coop easing the stress. How knows? Now if they'd just fatten up some. They look like hell. I can say hell here can't I ?

Anyhow they're all blue kote and dirty looking. I think I should just have a big pile of sand delivered and keep filling the sand box in the coop.

I've only seen two deer here in five years. Not sure why but it may be there is and easier way to pass through the area. Saw some turkeys once. Saw some yesterday near a house on the way home and have seen them there before. I think the people at the place are feeding them. Which is what I would do, not that I should.

Anyhow I have a few trees that need to some down. One near my hoop coop. But I have no saw and no one to take them down. Easy 50 footers. I've had a some fall since we moved in. Got a friend to cut them up but he had a heart attack. He's younger than I am! Not over weight or anything. He's still kickin but not so high.

Well I'll check in later, have granny squares to do.

Ginny- glad to hear that you're feeling better.

Mads- your job sounds a lot like my mom's at the hospital billing office

We candled eggs last night and 47 of 56 are growing. In this batch 6 of 8 BLRW are growing.

I'm telling ya, you need to work with me. I'm more than happy to step in.

My farm buying club peeps are bugging me to start selling my surplus eggs through them, as some of them want my girls' offerings. I may end up taking them up on the offer for at least a couple dozen a week if only to free up fridge space!

Alas, I didn't make the cut for a nucleus colony from Betterbee (I'm on the standby list, though), so I'm now hunting around the Web for package bees. DH has received buzzing boxes in the mail before years ago, but that'll be a new experience for me. I'll wager they're slightly less cute than chirping boxes.

Do you mean the one on the right is the BXS? The one on the left should be a Silver Ameraucana. I am so happy that it came out blue

Hopefully alot of the ones I have in the bators will come out the same way. If the white ones have a comb like these ones that means they are pea combed and should lay a blue egg.
