NY chicken lover!!!!

Going to take the kids on vacation this summer. Looking for a place any where from Maine to Virginia on the OCEAN! If you know of a nice little spot, tent, motel, hotel, etc. I would love to know. Thanks!

The naked neck gene is dominant so you should get some.

I heard the same is true with the PAIN IN THE NECK GENE. To bad I didn't know that when I was younger.

At the risk of this looking like an ad, I would strongly recommend VRBO. We use it to rent our lake house during the summer. It is rentals by owners and they are all over the world. If you travel with others or need more than one hotel room, this can very often be cheaper and you have use of a kitchen, etc. which also helps to defer the cost. Just an idea.

Just found this thread! Instead of typing everything all over again, here is a link to what is going on South East of Buffalo NY (30 minutes out) and about 50 minutes outside of Rochester

Great to see some "local"ish folks!

I have a few roosters and let me tell you they all don't have a nice crow. I have Birchen Marans and I swear his crow sounds like rusty breaks on a car. It is so oooo bad.

That said and since you found out about the roosters , I would see about applying for a variance. Talk to your neighbors and see if they won't sign a letter allowing you to have a rooster or roosters and put that with your application.

The main thing is documentation. Get a copy of Patricia Formans book "City Chicks". Use a font size that is large enough to read quickly when typing up your information attached to your application. You might even show a copy to the neighbors that explains a roosters crow and how loud it is and all that stuff. I'm sure you 'll do a fine job.

I wish you well ,

Framac - There are many reasons why chicks don't hatch. One being positioned in the shell right. The head has to be tucked under the right wing and all that. I recently had a chick that did not hatch and it was due to being positioned wrong I think. It just could not move to get out of the egg. Not sure why this happens but if it's hereditary it's not something I'd want passed on anyhow.

One of the shipped eggs started to developed and just quit. I'm not sure the opening of the incu is a problem as much since the mother gets off the nest once a day and is off long enough for the eggs to cool considerably more than when I lift the top of the incu.

Heck I had a hen hatch 2 for 2 and we had below zero temps in the coop once. She insisted on sitting so I said "Fine be that way you crazy bird". She didn't answer of course but she did stick out her tongue.

I have one now sitting on 9 eggs and if she hatches them fine if not I'll feel bad for her but such is life.

Take care,
