NY chicken lover!!!!

Ok Cass I've talked it out with the DH. We're going to have a get together this year instead of next. We live 10 minutes from Marquisella, so you just might get your chance to buy some of her birds.

I'm not planning a chickenstock, just a simple gathering of chicken friends at my home. I have plenty of space.
Sunday August 26 at noon to whenever. My veterans calendat says that day is women equality day (just thought that it was neat unrelated trivia).

SWEET! I am so in! We had it at my house last year and it is great fun! I think you are about 2 hours from me. I will bring food, eggs, chicks, chickens, chairs, whatever. It all comes together for a good time!

I have been gardening for years. Started out helping my Dad when I was little, have my own now. I've always gardened in rows, right now the area I have available is about 25 x 25 ft. I am thinking of raised beds for this year and more of a square foot gardening methof. What do you think?

Get yourself to Home Depot and start buying the "culled", 2x6, 2x8, and larger if they have them. They are usually 48" or thereabouts. I use three to make 2'x4' beds and 4 to make 4' beds. All measurements are approx mind you but they work. I stop and check often to see what they have and buy if there is something I can use. All my beds are culled lumber from HD.

The entire top of one of my runs will be culled plywood pieces from HD. I stop through the winter months and buy whatever I can find. You never know what they'll have. I used 4x4 x4 posts to shore up my stockade fencing. Prices are $1 or $. 50 or thereabouts.

This pic has only about $40 worth of culled lumber from HD, not including soil which of course is chicken cleanings and horse manure and whatever else I work in there. No trouble pulling weeds either. No tools needed to dig hole to stick plants in since it's not been walked on either. Most plants do not put roots down farther than 12" I'm told so they work out well. Just add another stack if you want them higher. Non treated lumber of course.

Dear Staff:

We, the population of this thread, are constantly asking marquisella what she has "in stock" or "to sell" or "to trade". Those of us who frequent this thread appriciate that she takes the time to inform us of what is going on with her flock and are NOT offended by her posts. IF her post was flagged, please investigate how long the flagger has been on BYC before asking her to stop posting her items on this thread, because we ASK HER TO. Perhaps it was a newbie that just doesn't understand how this thread operates.

Personally I have only gone to the BST thread twice...both times were very very frustrating because everything I wanted to obtain was way to far away to actually aquire. SOooo I (and many others) count on our local chicken folk to let us know, on the NY thread, what they have available. My entire flock has been found on this thread....Happyhensny, featherz and stonykill being the ones who have let "us" know what they have and I have contacted them to get my birds.

Yes, we could PM people who speak of having birds we would like to own and ask them if they have anything currently available....but how time consuming for both parties would THAT be, really? A quick post here to the "locals" and everyone knows what is where and who has what.

Sooooo....hmm...what else can I say?

Dear Marquisella,

Unless they are threatening to throw you off the entire forum PLEASE continue to post what you have available for sale/trade on our little local thread...I and many others count on that information being right here on the thread we frequent. Please don't stop letting us know...and someday, I promise, I will finally have the money to obtain one or two of your wonderful birds and we will get to meet face to face.

Thanks,

Cass

Can I get an "AMEN" to postings that contain "I have XYZ currently available" on this thread?

AMEN!!!!!!!!

Well I have to agree. As they say Charity begins at home and I offer to the folks in NY first. I don't ship chicks and as a rule don't "sell" hatching eggs.

I hate NYS government but love my neighbors.

Well maybe not all my neighbors but the chicken owners at least.

Rancher, if I got chickens, you got chickens, Hicks.

I have it marked on my calendar! My Daughter is getting married on August 31, so the only thing that will stop me is if she has some plan for me!! It will be a very small and intimate ceremony, so I should be good to go!! YAY!!

Hi folks; I am rather new to BYC and I have enjoyed this thread very much. I don't understand why someone would feel the need to possibly hurt another person by contacting BYC about something as petty as mentioning that they have sale or trade items.Look around and take note of what's happening in this world and realize how fortunate we are to have this and each other.

Could this site also be set up so that certain words trigger the byc powers of be and that it isn't someone complaining. If it is, sorry about the previous statement. Carol
