NY chicken lover!!!!

Sunday being the 18th day was correct. Tues. to Thurs would be day 20-22. I am so distracted about doing everything right that I wrote the wrong days for hatching. I candled on dayt 16 and don't see any movement. Just dark packed eggs and air pockets. Past 2 years I candled I thought there was movement. I am worried that something went wrong but I'm not sure which factor it was. So I am planning a back up - like going to TSC and getting chicks -then trying again later in May. Unless Cass has some new borns I could buy????? I hear she is hatching Monday?
K.............

I usually candle on day 10 and 18, and by day 18 the eggs should be dark. I rarely see any movement unless the chick has pipped into the aircell. So I still say wait and see. ;)

I gave up candling....I have NO CLUE what I am looking at so I don't look. Now the eggs I have in my itty bitty incubator are getting heavier, so I assume that something is growing...I just hope it isn't mold

Went to TSC today and they were sold out of dog wormer. Who would've thought that everyone would want to worm their dogs this weekend? Now I'm going to have to go another TSC in the next few days.

I think you are all very brave to even consider going to TSC during chick days. I know myself, I would be about as likely to leave that store without chicks as I would be ignore an open package of oreos when I'm starving. And it hasn't even been a week since the basement saw the last of the chickens.

I went into TSC twice this week and left without any chicks. Darn, they ones they have are bigger than the ones in my brooder so I can't slip a few in and say "I must have counted wrong, there were always 19 in there." LOL

All they had were assorted bantams. They were black skinned with five toes and yellowish tinted fuzz. Some of them had the silkie top fro. They looked like silkies or silkie crosses all nearly identical.

just wanted to post up and say hello from Cato NY ( south of Fulton ) with my 12 TSC chicks that I am brooding now. Will post more questions on design of my tractor coop and the features I have to have when I know what they are. I have raised birds in the past mostly Ducks and Pheasants but they were used for training my Field trial dogs (Labrador retreivers) and not intended for long term care.

Oh my! Such cuteness! Will you be getting turkeys this year too?

I do want a couple of turkeys, preferably heritage birds. I'm hoping somebody at the farm sale has poults - otherwise, I may just bite the bullet and order some, and Craigslist the extras.
