NY chicken lover!!!!

For all the NN fans.. finally got a pic of my two remaining NN peeps from the v-day hatch (one obvious boy went to schuylerville). Hard to tell on the right one, but they are really neat colors! Pretty sure the right one's a girl, jury's still out on the left. s/he has a reddish neck, but no comb and super scrawny legs..

Hows everyone doing with their hatching?

So far, I'm overun with Marans, Coronations & some blue laced red Wyandottes. Last week I had something get into the middle brooder & lost about half of that weeks chicks, so sad...

On a happy note, this weeks hatch went very well and have loads of chicks...

Congratulations on the hatch....sorry to hear about the losses.

Are you going to sell any of them? If so, I'll take 2 of those Marans when I am out there in August. Can you hold them that long? I'll willingly pay price for started pullets, not chick prices. If you CAN'T hold them that long I'll make a road trip. (but with the price of gas I'd rather wait til I am out there)

Make sure you contact me to see what I've got. I might have something for you. If not chicks you might want some eggs to hatch.

As soon as I can get a new camera I'll post pics of my BR's . Ask Trilyn, very nice.

Plus she may have something and if not for you perhaps to bring back for someone else out that way.

I usually have started chicks that I can sex by summer. What I don't sell each week on my waiting lists, I run on to either use to replace what I need, or sell as sexed birds. I almost always have something for sale all the time! LOL

Hatching this season has gone well so far. Currently have some Ancona duck, Am, Barnevelder & BLRW eggs in the incubators now due for the Easter hatch. This week I am expecting a box of Call duck and Turkey eggs.

They're doing fine. I sold the roo, but have the two blacks and they are nice. Not as tall but nice. I have two lav chicks in the brooder and know that the lav roo did the deed with one of the lav hens before he went. They also might be lav amer/EE's. I have a lav amer roo and a lav EE hen.

While I am concerned with type I'm more concerned with laying quality. So far they seem ok.

I also have a BBS hen to breed with the blacks too.
My orps are great layers -not as good as my red production hens, but almost daily. I'm just in love with the lav/self blue color!..I have some bantam lav EExsilkie x3 in the brood box from Meagan. they will need homes when they get bigger.

Oh thorny bushes...that's great...the buffer of trees and brush by the road near my house has lots of raspberries there. Hopefully that will deter my future hens from venturing near the road.

Featherz...I so wish I had a coop ready to go right now! I would definitely be your backup! But alas, it will be this summer when I'm finally ready to build it. Probably not the best time to get new chickens, but oh well. There's an auction up the road from where I live that sells livestock every Saturday night. I have yet to stay for the bidding, but they always have quite a selection of poultry there. I wonder if it will be a good place to get chickens from. We'll see.

Still looking for button quails if anyone knows of a local source. :)

Happy clucking!

-Crystal

I am pretty sure I've seen quail in the local CL, either syracuse or Utica/Rome.

If the Calls and turkeys do well and you want to rehome a couple of either, I'd be interested in both!

The BLRW are so pretty!!! I should add some of them to my flock.

The ducks are continuing to grow like little weeds. They're feathering out rapidly (can't sex 'em until they're about four months old, though, as everyone gets juvenile plumage first), and the occasional little "quack" is now heard among the peeps and whistles. Alan was funny yesterday. "I gave them grass, and somebody quacked!"

They grow up so fast. *sniffle*
