NY chicken lover!!!!

I just put Silkies in lockdown, had to pull two clears, not sure how this is going to go, no one put water in the incubator while I was away for four days. :( Or collected the duck eggs, there is a dozen in the duck coop that I can't use. They collected Ameraucana eggs and THOSE they put in the fridge! <Bangs head on wall>

But the Cream Legbars are here! And Ameraucanas... I was worried about the Ameraucanas, If I had known it was going to go from hot to cold on my drive back I would have brought a heat pack for them! And I didn't have the brooder cleaned and ready, so after a nine hour drive with a crabby five month old baby I had to go find something to put the chicks in!

I put water in the incubator when I set the eggs then at lockdown. Never inbetween. Have had good hatches, you should be ok. Why can't you use the duck eggs? My cousin in Cypress never refridgerates her eggs, I think in the US we only do it to make them last longer. They should be fine as well. Good luck on the new chicks.

I believe I'm done hatching for the year.

I do have more than a dozen chicks up for offer if anyone is interested. I will be posting them to CL . They are free if you'd like any. All are black either orps or EE's.

Can't keep them all you know.

I can meet you in the East Syracuse Minoa High School parking lot. That should give you an idea of where you need to go.

CURSE YOU, TSC!!

Ok, just kidding. I took my son in there yesterday to look at some waterers. "Oh, look! They have chicks." Got him redirected and out the door. Whew.

DW comes home from work. "Hey, Mom, they have chicks as TSC. We should go look at them."

I have now added four Ameraucanas and two Buff Orpington pullets to the flock.

I'll probably go to the schuylerville auction tomorrow to drop off my extra v-day chicks. They are getting rather cramped!

Today is more coop cleaning, as soon as the girls stop laying in there. :p

I tried to buy that box but lost......... what did you think of the BR turkeys???

Well I got home last night and the hen that was going broody was on the perch. She did not lay an egg, and seemed to have no interest in being broody. FINE, back in with her friends in the main part of the coop. She hops up on the Perch, looks at me, goes back to "her" favorite nest box, and begins the stare.

So My new question is how around day 18/19 do I fix the nest (3 feet off the ground) so the babies don't fall out? Sigh.....

Framac.

1-2 days before the eggs hatch out, put a piece of fencing in the box and the chicks will stay in the nest box for you!!!

Java Girl - I live in Schuylerville and am wondering what auction you're referring to. The only one I know of is Town and Country, but their livestock is sold on Saturday night. Is there another one?? Could they possibly have button quails?

I posted some classroom pictures; however, never having done it before-I don't know where they ended up!!!! I think they were posted in the Where Am I? Where Are You? forum. So if you want to see the Classroom chicken pictures with some of featherz and happyhensny chicks- look there. Thought I was posting them in the NY Lovers section. I am so technologically challenged!!!

I just ran in and dropped off the chicks. Brought $22, not bad at all considering I usually give them away for free! :) The turkeys were pretty cool looking, but I know nothing about turkeys. Pretty sure I saw quail there too. Wonder who got the cute little goat? :)
