NY chicken lover!!!!

What breeds do you have?

Mostly just hatchery stock, but friendly birds. There's another BYC'er that was planning to take them but haven't been able to touch base in a few days so maybe she changed her mind. I'm giving her a bit more time before the CL, but I really want to get them out so I can put my barn chickens in there. Just hate having them in a barn with no sunshine! :)

I have nine chickens in that coop including one roo and two pullets (all BO). Rest of them are between 1-1.6 years old - EE's, one SLW, three Mix.

Well I got a response to the CL ad and plan a meeting tomorrow. Hopefully they'll show up. I don't know why people answer the ads and then can't be big enough to say " I changed my mind" and then not show up.

The school is not far and I won't have to drive far if they don't show.

One person one time wanted to meet at night and in a parking garage. Like that will happen, NOT!

I always try to meet in a public place and of course in the day time.

We have no auction nearby anymore.

I have had SOOO many people say "Oh yes, I want them/it/whatever" and then I never hear from them again. I agree, what's so hard about an email saying you changed your mind? Even make up a 'family emergency' excuse (which is always what I get when they do bother to send an excuse).. =)

When I was trying to unload one or two of my roos, I had three responses. I never heard from one again despite a couple of emails and voice messages I left him (for me to have called him is saying a lot - I despise the phone - I'm a text girl). The other two both decided against it at the last minute, yet neither bothered to call or email me to, y'know, tell me. Both of them gave me something along the lines of "oh, yeah - we changed our minds - guess we probably should have let you know that" when I called them to make arrangements. Fortunately, I hadn't yet set up a time and place with any of them, but, still, it wouldn't have killed 'em to shoot me a one-line email saying, "nah, decided against it - thanks!"

I had one that was going to meet me at the train station (all the way in albany) and I was bringing baby chicks. I kept writing to make SURE they were coming and literally 10 minutes before I left I guess they felt guilty and I got the 'family emergency' excuse. Maybe it was real, but since everyone says that kinda hard to believe it. :p I am so glad they finally told me so I wasn't sitting in albany for several hours with a box of chicks! :)

There's a story in the Troy Record about the Nassau farm animal tailgate sale.

I would love to bring the kids here and possibly find some chicks to start out with. I'm assuming it's open to the public? And is there an admission fee?

It's free and everyone is welcome!

The guy quoted in the article as one of the organizers lives one road over from me, and is the fellow poultry enthusiast from whom I bought my Thanksgiving and Christmas turkeys. He has a big flock of mixed layers, occasionally does Cornish X meaties, and raises broad-breasted white turkeys.

I would really like to go but it's pretty far and I can't drive that far by myself. My legs would never stand for it.

Brooder box is set up and I have a tsc list. Hopefully I can get out of there with no chicks!!! Soaked and rebandaged Elanors feet. They are coming along nicely. Didnt slow her down any running around the yard. Everyone got to freerange for a while and I got to read the latest edition of my backyard poultry magazine that came today. It was a good day.

It had been freezing the night I got home, so any embryos would have been dead. :( We ate them for dinner tonight, so they were still "good" just not good for hatching.

I need to PU another hygrometer so I actually know what the humidity is in there, I have bought I dunno how many cheapy ones from Walmart and they've all died!

The family emergency excuse is what gets to me. I need to look at it this way, if they think they need to lie to you then they can't be trusted and I don't need to deal with them anyways.
