Glass--sorry to hear about your loss. Keep a close eye on the rest as the foxes will be back for an easy meal.
Tab--nice to see you back again.
Silkie seekers--if you want good silkies, go to a breeder. I had gotten silkies last year and what a difference between the hatchery babies and the breeders babies. As soon as the eggs hatched, i could tell the difference. I had health issues with the hatchery stock and found them a nice permanent home with a lady who takes in chickens. The breeder stock I have now are just beautiful and healthy and so much fun! I have 21 eggs in the bator now, most from sundown and obsessively silkies. My breeding quad are from simplysplendidsilkies. If you buy hatching eggs and hatch them yourself, you will save some money. I hope you find some quality breeders around you, as the extra time and effort in getting good birds pays off. I do not show and never will but will be breeding for quality, color and type. My silkies are my kids and they always come running when I call and are excited to see me when I come out.
So I get home from work tonight to discover the pop door on the big coop had blown shut, which means the girls couldnt go inside to get out of the wind or eat. I heard all about it and received a thorough reaming out from them..Extra cracked corn seemed to help soothe wounded feelings. Elanors feet are healing and will require another soaking tomorrow. She is taking it in stride and hasnt slowed down. Her bffs keep an eye on her and keep her company. I am hoping I wont have to bandage them tomorrow. Ever try to bandage a hens feet by yourself??? Kinda like grabbing and holding jello cause she just keeps moving and slipping out of your grasp!
Hey hen--a friend posted a great sig he saw on a ventolin box..."Inhale 2 puffs by mouth every 4 hours rectally." I wonder if it causes bad breathe???
