NY chicken lover!!!!

Sue, there's a thread that Nifty just started, it seems some of the e-mail gurus are checking into it.
I have AOL, and haven't gotten crap since the update. In fact AOL seems to be a big problem with everyone.

BTW, your chicks are doing GREAT. The Marans girls are beautiful, got 2 boys as well, they are so klutzy.
And the Sussex all seem to be girls, unless I am hallucinating or something stoopid.
And the lavs, I think it's only one boy, but not sure.
I love them all! Thanks again!
Roberta
Roberta, so glad you got mostly girls....I too love my Lavs & the Coros. I swore I wouldn't get any white birds, but broke down when I saw the Coronations.....had to have them!

I thought you had picked out the boys for breeding, and had left only girls!
The white ones look fully grown, but the lavs are half their size.
I'm not familiar with either breed, so will see how they all turn out.

Featherz, yes, you were right about the thread, I'm sorry 'bout that.
This new platform just aggrivates me.
I thought it would get better. Old dog, new program.
Nope. I just deal with it. UGH.

So far the Silkie Momma is very protective of "her" chicks. I didn't venture to put my hand in there after her warning clucks...didn't have to, I know there are not shells banging around and how many chicks there are....I put them there. LOL

I wish I could put this group under my table, wrapped in chicken wire, like I have done in the past with others. However these are D'uccle chicks and are so small they would fit through the chicken wire holes. (I don't have any left over hardware cloth...sigh)

Hopefully, after all this particular Momma has gone through to get live chicks, she will defend them against all brutes and they will be fine with the space they have, which includes an egg crate they can fit through the holes of, but no one else can. I will have to reevaluate the situation once she starts taking them "out" and see if I need to find other things for them to duck under.

They are cute chicks and Momma should do just fine!

Anyone interested - I will have MORE D'Uccle chicks hatching on Mother's Day, so get a special gift for that someone special!

Anyone gone to the 'Spring Auction' that the schuylerville auction peeps hold? I notice it's next weekend at 9AM, but didn't know if they still do the livestock auction that day. I am planning to bring a bunch of birdies if I can next weekend! Is the Spring machinery auction worth it? DH wants to go see. :)

The Coronations are a larger bird, the Lav Orps are a lot of fluff!
The thing that irritates me most, is when I'm looking at the auctions. After I click on one to read, to get back to where I was I have to go to the beginnning of the auctions pages, instead of just "back". Then scroll down past all the ones I already saw....spend too much time doing that. I expect that is why auctions now, hardly get bids. Most go unsold. Its a shame.
Did you get the Fingerlakes Feather Club show flyer for June 3rd? We sent them out to everyone who showed at the NEPC.

I did....it's kind of far. But, I am in the middle of a mid life crisis, and might actually quit my job, go into semi-retirement, and sell jewelery.
I am making chicken earrings right now, and may try to let a business permit, and go to all the shows.....
Will be posting pics right now, to see how much I should charge.
Will be at Sussex County in 2 weeks, they have OKed me to have a table set up.
Just not sure about the legal end of it.....

It's beautiful outside! Giving the girlies lunch then ging right back out. Working on the flower beds, DH mowing lawn, and the girls are picking dandelions for the chickens.
Hope everyone is enjoying the day.

Yes, it is great outside, I agree.

Still working on the landscaping project involving the streambed. Shoveled stone most of the day. Hope to finish with that part by tonight.
Chooks are enjoying the day, they are out and about in the temporary enclosure getting grass and bugs.

Girls are laying eggs well and we have extra now. Have to think of what to do......

today we integrated the 23 four week old's into the grow out pen with the twelve 6 week old's. All went well. Everyone is getting along fine!
