NY chicken lover!!!!

I have adult Pekin drakes to liquidate. Just over 1 year old. My wifes pets, so we don't care what you do with them, but just don't tell us if you know what I mean. PM me if interested. I have 5 or 6 I'll part with.

I am going to try and keep the ones that hatched out of your eggs, but Pyxis is coming to get some for her broody today so I hope I can tell who is who! when you have a pile of mutt chicks it can be hard to pick out anything but the naked necks lol. I tried putting lockdown eggs under my broody, but in only one hour yesterday one pipped (!) egg went missing. Not sure if the hens ate it but you'd think that would leave a lot of blood, right? Either that or a snake got in.
In either case, got those eggs out so hatching only 11 eggs .. 7 are out and I am pretty sure the other four are pipped..
So how are the chicks I gave you doing ? Can you tell if they are all Roos like you wanted?

All my eggs SHOULD hatch lavender chicks....unless Hic got to the hen they they would be splits...lav/black (unlikely, cuz Randy chases him off) So they should be Lavender with yellowish bellies and slate or dark legs. Every chick I ever got to hatch from those eggs was lav. Survival rate not so good cuz they got squished two different hatches. Sigh.

And yes, you did a great job of picking roos. I think only ONE is female, and the jury is still out on "her". (The black chick is the one I suspect is female) There is one chipmonk one that might be female, but the tail is pretty long....my neighbor wants females....oops....but right now she has a broody sitting on 15 old eggs (Maybe 10 days old before she sat on them) We are both hoping they hatch, cuz I get the roos from her hatch too. YUMMY!!! She keeps the hens.

Hmm. I think I have three small lavender-y looking ones from the three blue/green eggs. You also gave me a brown egg - that one isn't out yet but the chick looks dark.

And either I did a great job of roo picking OR as usual I hatched out mostly roos. LOL.

I forgot about the brown egg. Well that answers the question of fertility of the Maren egg. That chick should be black....the momma is....the daddy is lavender. (or black, but again, highly unlikely) If it is female it should lay some shade of green eggs...in other words it's gonna be an Olive Egger.

Edited to add: Unlike humans, the hen determines the gender of the offspring....so if you are hatching mostly roos, you need new hens. Bruahahaha

I find them silly looking myself. But maybe that's just me and Rancher

Nope, I find them pretty dopey looking myself. I have exactly ONE of them....she's a wonderful broody and a good momma....Oh, and has BLACK skin, so there is no way I am gonna butcher it for eating, so it stays.

Aliens. And the other chickens laugh at it. (Oh, and it can't fly, so it can't roost with the other chickens. Pretty, but useless)

that is the only reason I would ever have one. As an incubator
