NY chicken lover!!!!

Anyone have any Guinea keets available? Thought I would ask before I ordered them online, lol How hard are they to hatch out? I've got silkies that are brooding nothing, lol
I've hatched a few batches of keets (not now, in the past) - pretty much the same as chicks, at least in an incubator. Mine actually I'd say were easier - keets are SO cute when they are little! I had mine in a brooder with chicks and the chicks would lumber along slowly while the keets zoomed around them. =)

Heard coyotes again last night. They woke me up at one point because they sounded that close to the house. Maybe they were looking for their friend that got tossed on the back 40 a couple days ago.

We had them in close to the house last night too. I kept the cat inside (which she hated), and the loaded gun downstairs (no kids in house). If they show their eyes they are going to be used for target practice and I used to be a good shot. (Yes, even at night, cuz I live in that rural an area that there is no way there is someone out there, esp with 'yotes yapping and howling in that close to buildings)

Here too! Must be because of fall? Around our house it can sound like there's 5 of them howling and yapping. Our dog gets so nervous. Never seen one, but hear them all the time.

Got our first egg today!!!!!!!!!! YAY!

Not sure which silkie hen laid it though.

Awesome! Congrats!

I've been hearing strange noises at night too. Listening to youtube, I think my weird noises are foxes? Have never seen a coyote around here, but we did have them in california and at night they sounded 'creepy' for lack of a better term. They'd yelp, howl and just.. well, creepy. :p

The noises I have been hearing (very close to the house!) sounds a LOT like you would hear if a chicken was screaming in terror. first time hubby heard it he came and got me and calmly told me the chickens were screaming (instead of running out there himself with the .22! LOL).

In either case, I've been leaving all my electric fences on at night and so far so good.

There are 5800 acres of state game lands behind me and I've heard there are coyotes there, but I've never heard any, probably because the 1/4 mile away, down the hill, "neighbor's" mutts howl continually.

Survivor--Chicken Style has ended as of this morning. The winners are Erik the red and Hane, norweigan names for my dh. So far they have their wings full trying to keep track of all the girls, who are currently in the woods scratching away. They better live up to their names! The losers are resting comfortably in a roomy dish in the fridge before being admitted into freezer camp. My silkie boys were being nuisances this morning until they saw what was happening and then they ran back to their coop. Watch and learn, boys!

So glad its cooler today. Been busy baking so I can enjoy the day.

Update; dh didnt like Erik the red so his new name is Olof, since there is a famous Olof in Norweigan history. These two have been very busy trying to keep track of all the girls. Its nice, however, to have a peaceable kingdom right now. Dumped 4 loads of pine chips into the run of the rir coop. I think they all thought it was a birthday gift. At least I dont have to spread it out!
